Sorry to hear buddy. I empathize with you though. My car was rear ended after a week of ownership back when i first got it. It can be fixed.

Because it is a claim on his insurance. Anytime you make a claim on your insurance you can be rest assured your rates will go up. The offender is nowhere to be found, so he is left picking up the bill and having to file a claim.

Sucks but that is the way it is. Some people just don't care nor have common decency.

Best of luck with the repair OP.

This should be covered under comprehensive portion of policy and not collision. Probability of rate increase should be less as a result.

Were you parked in a marked parking spot, or stopped in the lot, or moving through the lot? Whatever, it's a shame for that to happen at any time but after 60 days of ownership that's a ball breaker.
Regarding the same insurance company covering both drivers, if 100% of the fault is assigned to the driver that hit you then that insurance company pays for everything regardless of who they do or do not insure. Any resulting premium change goes to the at fault driver. Period. Did an adjuster tell you that it made a difference somehow? Those guys are all cannibals.

People just don't get it anymore; you are in a car for one reason - to get from one place to another - pay attention to driving and leave all the other s**t alone!!!
Why does your rate get affected just because you are using the same insurance company?

Edit: Nvm you answered in a previous post. Rates go up for natural disasters yes, but this incident by itself will not affect your rate. I hope the claim was opened with the other guys policy number though.

Sorry to see this OP. I wouldn't worry about your rates going up because you both share the same carrier. Law of large numbers helps here. You won't see any appreciable difference in your rates assuming 3party is 100% at fault. Also there was some question about diminished value claim. Absolutely ask, however whether you qualify varies by jurisdiction

The big cost in this repair is going to be the door jamb area on the quarter behind the rear door, most likely they'll cut the quarter out (structural damage)

I'll echo everyone asking about diminished value.

If the wheel got hit, the car is likely suffered some suspension damage on top of the structural damage through the quarter panel. That would cost a lot of money to repair

Agreed on all posts. My 2015 was hit in a parking lot. No cameras, no witnesses. My gym of all places. I was gonna pay out of pocket to avoid a collision claim with a $1000 deductible. I started adding up the parts on line and realized I was exposing myself pretty badly. The frigging LED headlight alone is nearly $2000!!!.

My car was hit on the right side of the front bumper. Exactly as suggested above....front bumper, lower bits, auxillary radiator, headlight, hood, right front control arm was bent, along with damage to the right front wheel and tire. Aluminum, plastic, and carbon fiber gets expensive very quickly. After BMW put the car up on a jig...they had it for 3 days and added 10 GRAND to the bill.

On a (very slightly) positive note, I was able to use my deductible towards new Vorsteiner 103 wheels and Mich 4S tires.

Total bill was $17,000!!!! Granted the shops put the insurance over a barrel. I wish it didn't happen, and my car lost value, BUT, I got new wheels, a brand new hood, brand new front end, new tires, brand new underbody panels, new headlight etc.

Sometimes same insurance company is bad. StateFarm once tried to do the "both parties at fault" trick on me before. They insist that since it was in a parking lot, we both are at fault so they pay some out of the person policy and some out of mine. I flat out told them no way. The other person hit the side of my car backing out, with photos to show it. Had to take them to state's insurance regulators to get them to change their tactic. Dropped them like the plague after all was settled.

Make sure not to let them attach any blame to you.

Sorry that sucks 🤬. Forget what insurance says pick your own shop. I once asked the Volvo dealer who they send cars too for their pickiest customers. I had a Volvo 780 Bertone at the time so he understood.

Problem with repairs is years later and does it hold up like factory. I have a car on order and that is my fear. Good luck.
