F32 --> F82 - is it the right time?
Hey,
Is it still worth buying F82 now that the new model is supposed to come in.... 2/3 years? Heard different stories. I plan on keeping it for 3/4 years. Don't mind having a little overlap with next-gen at some point as I'd prefer to get competition package. Backstory: Right now I have F32 and I am generally really happy with it. Started modding it to make it a bit sportier. Didn't know M4 existed when I was buying it. Now I am fighting between one side of me who wants M for what it stands and the other part of me, that rationally speaking, suggests me to wait till next-gen as I have a really good car (interior/exterior-wise, they look "quite" similar) and messing around with that setup always costs money. Historically speaking, I don't have a great record of making wise car decisions. Last three cars, including the current one, are in my garage for around a year. There's always something new popping up. In this case, it was the performance and fact that 2.0 is not something that I identify with. I genuinely wonder if M4 would be the car I stick to for more - right now I am 100% sure it's true, but again, I've been saying this for every one of the past cars too. Anyway, thanks for reading this - help wanted! |

the new m3 should roll out 2020, so the m4 should be out 2021.
if you're changing every 3-4 years i would say get the f82 now if you can, then just get the lci m4 whenever it releases. ultimately still your decision on what you want to do since it's your money, if you can afford it comfortably i don't see why not.

Keep waiting and you'll never live. In two years when the G80 is out you'll wonder if you should wait another year for the G80 ZCP. You can't wait forever and there will always be something newer on the horizon.

I too have debated this and still on the fence. Though Paris auto show (Oct 4th) will showcase the new 3 Series and may provide some indicators to what we can expect in the future, little over 2 years for the G80 is a long time. Life is short.
2019 M4 ZCP might be the better choice. |

As most people have said, you'll never be able to have the latest and greatest. If you wait for the next-gen car you'll then be faced with having to wait for the LCI versions and competition packages. It never ends. So enjoy what you have in the present!
I have a 2019 M4 ZCP on order and don't really feel worried about having any kind of regret when the G80s come out. There are always going to be LCIs and competition packages further down the road to consider. One thing to consider is that getting a good deal may be a lot harder with the newer models. That and having to be on a potential wait list. While the F series are on their way out, you can find some great deals. Especially if you have no problems with used cars. |
