6MT Weighted Shift Knobs
In an effort to improve the manual transmission in my F80, I recently upgraded to the AutoSolutions SSK, removed CDV valve and added the clutch stop.
The two remaining items may be the UCP and pairing the SSK with a weighted shift knob. I think I may have gone a hair too aggressive with my SSK throw reduction, making shifts a bit too notchy for my liking. I figure a weighted shift knob may alleviate this. Any recommendations for weighted shift knobs? I actually prefer the shifter to sit lower rather than higher, so I'm not looking to add something that adds too much height. Thanks!

If you want a lower shift knob, the F3x M Performance knob is much smaller than the standard one. I do not know the weights, though, and it's been years since I've installed it so cannot remember the difference.

I love that one, but I don't think it's weighted.

It seems that the illuminated M Performance Pro shift knob is circa 50g heavier than the one I've mentioned, and 20g heavier than the original one, all including the boot. Unsure how accurate these numbers are.

The UCP doesn't do much for this platform. I felt it made a bigger improvement on my last E92. However, your experience may be different since you've removed the CDV; mine is still intact.
If you're adamant for the UCP, installation for it will be easier if you remove the AC vent, storage box, then work your way from the bottom. I had some control module that required removal, otherwise it'll be near impossible. My config: stock setting for the pin, removal of the outer/larger helper spring, and stock clutch stop. It wasn't comfy with the middle pin, often would rev out too high before the clutch would grab (and I've driven stick for 20 years now). Thinking about swapping the clutch stop for the BMS one since it's adjustable; the one from UCP feels too thick. I also went with the AutoSolutions SSK (best one out there), but paired it with a Raceseng knob. Shifting and driving feels amazing with this setup |

Do you have pictures of your shifter setup? Also, did you add the weighted knob before or after the SSK install (or at the same time). If after, I'm just curious if you noticed a further improvement from the SSK alone.

I don't want to hijack your thread. Looked at your posts and couldn't find any history on your feedback on improving the manual transmission.
What's your feedback on the CDV? |
