After 2 years, hows the F80 holding up?

Im due for a new fun car in August. I originally thought I wanted AWD so was looking at Audi, M5 etc. The M5 Comp has had my eye for a while, but now I'm considering RWD. So C63 (not that interested), Alfa 4 cheese (very interested and scared) and M3. I had a E92 back in the day and ADORED it.

I'd be looking at 2018s, how are they holding up? Is the infotainment dated or still good enough? Obviously power, driving dynamics are great. Depreciation is already pretty severe so worst case scenario you buy a car for 55-60 and then sell it a year later for 45-50. Not the end of the world.

Does anyone think it feels 'old'? I will say I drove a F30 335 x drive M sport in 2016 when I was getting rid of my E92, and I was turned off by the steering.

Infotainment is great in my '18. Best voice controls Ive used, always use that for navigation. Nothing feels dated.

My 19 SQ5 has a fancy looking cockpit with google satellite view but terrible interface so dont always go by looks... I much prefer it in my M3

Just picked up an '18 in February of this year. Doesn't feel dated to me. It only had 6k miles on it when I took delivery so everything is in great condition.

32k miles on a '18 here. Doesn't feel dated at all but I'm a MT and analog dials kind of guy. Don't give a shit about driver aids. Apple CarPlay helps keep the infotainment fresh. The resolution is fine but the screen itself is starting to look a little small especially compared to the current gen BMWs. The surround view cameras are starting to show their age as well in terms of resolution. No mechanical problems whatsoever. Only out of pocket expenses so far are for tires.

43k miles on my '15 M4. Practically no issues.

Best car I've ever owned.

F80 is the perfect mix between touch/analag controls for me. Anymore (e.g. g series) and my eyes start spinning.

2.5 years in with mine. Infotainment is great, controls are intuitive. I find it to be much more useful than some of other ones out there which may be more outlandish but lacking in substance.

Not an 18' here, but a April 16 build 6 spd MT. 63,000 miles with a 2 1/2 hour 80 mph commute and she purrs like a cat and doesn't feel dated.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not quite asking for reliability but more does the car feel fresh still or is it obvious that it’s 2020 and you’re driving a car developed in 2014, and does that matter?

My 2018 with 12k miles feels almost new and not dated relative to my wives more modern X3 M40i. Touchscreen feels a bit small for 2020 standards.

My only complain is that I realize more and more that I like smaller cars. Even if the F80 hides its weight well. Love my Mini to bits and F80 replacement would ideally be either new Elise replacement or Cayman GT4 type of car. But since I have a kid, I'll stop dreaming and the more bloated 911 will be the only option.

Love my '18 and doesn't feel dated at all. I prefer it over my buddies brand new RS5.

Yep. Each their own..I guess. BMW does classic-sporty cockpits so well in my opinion. Don't care for the Audi led interior lights (cheap feeling), control center, or shifter set-up.

The M3/M4 obviously has older tech. To me, it doesn't feel "dated", it feels a bit raw, and I like that. I'm personally not ready for a digital dash. But yes, a new G20/F90, will blow it away in terms of tech.

And I would check out the RS5 as well. Not for the tech, but for comparison- seems to be a great car.

Sound system and driving performance is all that matters.

I've had my 18 M3 COMP for nine months. No problems except the radio/infotainment started shutting down by itself last week. Dealer just had to reinstall software, that's all. I was given a new 330i loaner, and I hated the interior, especially the infotainment and dash screen. I know now that I'm 99% sure I'll be buying my car at the ends of the lease.

Mine's 5 years old now (34K miles), and still the best BMW I've owned out of a total of 5 since 2001. It's not had any major issues, and the few minor ones were remediated under warranty.

Nothing feels dated, cockpit looks nice in my CS even compared to the G20. Audi and Mercedes have some nicer tech for the interior, but that's secondary to the way it drives. I think it's still a great car even at the end of it's cycle. I'm on my 2nd F80 however, so for me it's time to move on, but for new owners, you would be hard pressed to find an equivalent car that checks so many boxes.

Just got a 20' X7 my 18' M3 feels dated in comparison but it doesn't matter, makes the M3 more special because I appreciate how the layout is more of a driver oriented experience.
