So far only BMW & MB had that line not a big fan of it, still preferred the front hood on E92.

The 911 has had a similar hood line since 1994, granted they have made it flow better with the cars overall design and have no engine under it which allows them to style it better. It doesn't bother me though. I don't think the F30 is a very good looking or interresting looking car but it's not due to the hood line. On the M4 concept it's a non issue IMO.

E92 M3 with F82 front bumper would be absolute sex IMO. In fact, isn't there a bumper like that irl? I could've sworn seeing something like that.. And honestly, the comparison pics are simply stellar. It also shows how timeless the E46 M3 is and probably will always be.

The F82 M4 is definitely an aggressive looking brute. I love the shape overall but I don't think I could ever get over the engine that will most likely be powering it. I blame BMW for spoiling me with beautiful exhaust notes. I love the screaming straight six in my M3 and love the tenacity of the V8 in the E92 M3. I'm sure the F82 will sound great in its own way, but doubt it'll contain a screaming type of sound that I desire in a sports car. On a side note: the Jaguar F type sounds like sex on wheels.

4) finally bmw got their act together and included black grilles rather than the horrible chrome ones
5) someone make a lip like that for the e92 please.
6) someone please make a replacement hood/bumper for the f82 please, so we can get rid of that horrible line.
7) f82, to me, is aesthetically far ahead of the e92.
PLEASE

+1

The car would look great but would look so much better without that line but I guess we will all just have to get used to it

Agreed...the problem is not the hood line but it's the hood itself that looks too square.

I love the overall appearance of the m4, the only complaints are the hood line is she*t,and the wheel arches doesn't seem wide enough, but i need to see i in real life to judge.

On the other side the car is sexy as hell, the front splitter is nice, rear diffuser is nuts, csl trunk, THE ROOF every other aspect i love!!!
Can't wait ti see it.
p.s. Hopefully bmw will properly tune the exhaust note for such a beautiful car!!!

so many complaints about the hood line. i honestly don't think it's bad at all but i'm probably biased since i drive an f30. i think without the line it would look weird.

These cars are getting big. 6" stretch over an E46. It would be interesting to see an E28M5 size comparison. What happened to the tight little car that was great to autocross and drive on the track? Yes, engineering is overcoming size the X6 is BMW's declaration of that. I suppose that fits well with a generation of drivers who used to track a lot and now want something they can track and drive comfortably cross-country (try that in a 911), but it's positioned differently in the spectrum of car choices than is used to be.

I'm looking forward to seeing the evolving 2 series numbers and images now. The Grand Coupe concept bothered me as a bastardization of the 2/4 door deliniation for the 6, but it might make for a reasonable replacement for old M3/4 in the future (unless I break down and get an e90). I'm looking for a 2 dr go kart that seats 4 in a pinch around town, I already have a touring/highway car, it's called an Odyssey.

Yes, I have small kids...Wishing BMW made an M-Van.

How come the new Audi and VW's models dont have the hideous hood cut?

as a former e92 owner (and either an e90 or F80 owner next year), I've always thought the e46 was much better looking. that said, I think the F30 looks way better than the non-M e90, so I'm not surprised that I like the look of the F80/F82 styling much more than the e90/92. I'm psyched to see what the F80 looks like - I think that's gonna be the ticket for me, but if not, I see a mint e90 in my future. can't wait.

The new X5 doesn't have the Hideous Hood Cut Line (HHCL), so clearly BMW does know how to design around the pedestrian safety regulations. The 3, 5, 6, and 7 all suffer from HHCL, but the 3 is the worst because it looks more squared off. It won't be surprising if BMW fixes this on the next versions of these cars.

I was also under the impression that the regulation required a more flat front of the car to prevent pedestrian leg breaks.

The larger dimensions of the M4 over E92 M3 are most likely to meet US fuel efficiency rules which are more lenient for cars with a larger footprint. The E46, great in its own right, seems from a different world.

Those are fighting words. I still think the E46 M3 is a timeless BMW design like the 507 roadster and 3.0 CSL.
