FTP Turbo Inlets / Dyno Numbers and Review
Hello Group,
I recently added the FTP Turbo Inlets to my car and did a dyno before and after to see if they would add any power by themselves. They really did not add much power at all but did add some sound. I plan to get a custom tune to see if I can take better advantage of the product. Avg Numbers before: 488/509 Avg Numbers After : 482/508 Area under the curve shows it added some power from 3.3K to 5K in the RPM range. If you are interested I did a full video with sound clips and more below.

I had ordered a set, started to install them, noticed how involved the install would be, returned them. Kinda glad I did, but def glad you followed thru and posted the results tho too! In theory, they should help response but Im surprised they had so little effect whether they made gains OR losses.

Your FTP will come into play when installing bigger turbos as they help allow tweaking fitment to the rear turbo inlet (as per Chris at VTT). I can see how a bigger opening and air path could slow down a small turbo a tiny bit. The smaller path would maintain air velocity to a smaller turbo, where the bigger path would allow more flow to a larger turbo (at same velocity).
I appreciate the FTP rear flange inlet side having 2 o-rings and that the inlet stack is metal instead of OEM plastic and 1 o-ring. The only downsides are that metal conducts heat where plastic resists, but I'd still use the FTP.

If it was charged air then the sizing could make a difference. But, typically anyway, the least restriction on the inlet and exhaust creates the best response. Which is why its a little weird it gave up some power/tq down low and even some response time for full spool up.

holy shit that is alot of work to install the inlets. I would only install these inlets during a turbo swap to make it worth it.

On thinking the bigger opening/path would be better for a small turbo I'm wondering if higher air velocity helps, like how bigger heads reduce power if the engine can't use them. In the small turbo and stock inlet situation I think the smaller inlet would maintain a higher inlet velocity.
I could also be overthinking this completely, and FTP made no change, and perhaps the few HP/TQ differences were common deviation.

Or downpipe install would make sense but make sure it will work with Pure or VTT GC turbos. Thanks OP for the honest feedback.

Thanks for making and posting up this review. Very helpful and I was having trouble finding any information on these.
I do have a few questions: How much time or how many miles was this given to adapt once installed before the dyno runs? I can imagine a change like this could require a bit of adaption and may even be down on power slightly before it has a chance to get itself sorted as a conservative approach to dealing with unexpected variations. Had anyone tried these with an actual custom tune created while running the inlets? As far as bolt-one go, this may be the most dynamic change in function, beyond the Dow pipes. The rest is really just preventative. |

Thank you for sharing
I do not expect the inlets to make a difference in power on stock turbos

I didn't even know these were a thing tbh. With my Pures I got a different silicone piece for the front/driver side intake, but the passenger intake still utilizes the plastic 'trumpet' sort of thing.
Hard to say if it seems worth it for upgraded hybrid turbos or not, depending on what the units come with I guess.

If power is your only concern, I'd wait on this mod until you upgrade your turbo
