I, too, am considering either a CPO 981 Cayman S/GTS or a 718 Cayman S. I've never driven a Cayman yet, only 911s, so I need to do that ASAP. I especially need to hear the 718 in person before making a decision. One of the reasons I haven't 100% connected to my F80 is due to the sound it makes (I'm about 90% in love), so I don't want to have the same thing happen with my next car.

If you don't need a car with rear seats, don't get one, please. Save the sports cars so they are still around for those of use waiting for the nest to empty out!

I did not vote in the poll because, if it were me, I am pretty convinced (though I've never driven either) that the Z06 would win out over the Cayman S. Just too much value in the C7 Vette to overlook it at this point.

Edit: I see others brought it up too and you already replied. Would be wise to go drive one before making any decision.

For the 981.1 i am in the gt4 or bust camp. For the 981.2, i guess im waiting to see how much faster the S is with the new turbo motor

biggest ? For me is why new cayman (other than gt4) and not used 911

I agree with this, too. I'm heavily leaning towards a CPO 911 as my next car unless I can swing a good deal on a low-option 991.2 C2 base. I won't rule out a 981.1 Cayman S/GTS but it isn't my first choice in the P-car chain.

Maybe I will but not a fan of the interior, the heat soaking problems and also the z06 would be even tougher to DD since it has pretty bad fuel economy.
That said, going forward I want my next car to be DCT and I prefer a lightweight low powered car than a heavier high powered car in general (my bias opinion)

it's usually tough finding a use Porsche with decent option and also as a business owner there is a big incentive for me to lease instead of buy

I love cars, and I think the new Cayman looks awesome. I had a 2007 Cayman, which I loved to drive. It was a great performer. However, it has some drawbacks, which I'm certain you have considered. Just thought I would say, as a devils advocate perspective, that I spent much of my time dealing with what the Cayman would not do. It was a daily driver for me, and as such, presented problems. #1 Golf - my clubs and push cart fit in, but could not take a buddy. A golf trip involving luggage was very tight. #2 Airport - had to be very careful about picking folks up at the airport. Depending on bag size it might be a no go. #3 Travel - had to pack almost as tightly as on my motorcycle if my wife and I wanted to go on a week long trip. Just a lot of hassles, none of which exist in my M4. And, let me tell you, my M4 outperforms the Cayman I had easily. Don't know about the new one. Just some things to consider. May not apply to you.

Before I bought my M4, I went to drive a Corvette. Problem was, the Chevrolet dealers in SA would not let me test drive one! I was flabbergasted, but they absolutely would not. I still have not driven one. My good friend, who loves Corvettes, recently told me he would still own one if not for having to deal with Chevrolet dealerships. Just sayin'.....

You bring up good points, I can imagine all the problems I would have picking up people from the airport. I wonder if storage space was increased for the 718, there seems to be a lot of storage space according to these adds:

I'm 100% sure your M4 outperforms your 2007 Cayman but my money would be on the 2017 Cayman S when compared to the M4 in terms of being a better drivers' car, on paper the Boxster S is 10 secs faster around the ring than the M4 so who knows what the lighter Cayman will put up. However I could be wrong, need to test drive one

Thank you for your input

You have to remember that 7:42 time for 718 S Boxster is Porsche claimed time vs. 7:52 time that was done by SportAuto for base M4. Figure maybe 5s quicker between 718 S Boxster and base M4 apple to apple comparison. And if you include M4 CP performance is likely similar or better at nurburgring than 718 S Boxster.

I vote 718 because it is not M4. You already have one why get another if there are options to be had. Yes the 718 will not sound as good as before but Porsche is a different experience all together. I would probably wait until the 718 GTS is available though.

**yawns at people recommending a corvette

Tough choice since the Cayman is a great sports car. M4 obviously more practical and spacious. I like the GT feel of the M4.

I daily drove a 350Z for over 5 years. I had other bigger vehicles though in case I needed to haul or needed more space. But I can only imagine how inconvenient it would have been if the Z was my only car. Just something you should seriously think about.

Since you are coming from an M4 I say get the 718 if you know you won't have a problem daily'ing it. Get something different.

Could you post the 600 a month deal? It's not the 5k a year mileage limit is it?

My father picked up a Macan Turbo at the beginning of the year. The lease was pretty much equivalent to a X5M, despite the MSRP difference.

I'm in the market for a M2, but the rates aren't so good. A cayman for 600 a month might be a nice option.

Nope 10k mi/year ~$63K MSRP with $5k down (remember you can negotiate down on non-gt Porsche Cars) Crazy right!?

Wow! That's actually pretty reasonable, and it's for a 63k MSRP!

I agree you can negotiate the 5k down. I believe my father only dropped 1k for drive off on the Macan Turbo.

May have to pay them a visit soon....

yeah that is reasonable and a 62% residual to boot. Wonder what the rates for 2017 cars will be.

That's the 275hp base Cayman not 718 which likely won't have as good residuals (at least in the beginning).

Yea hopefully by 2017 we will be able to get similar numbers. Wish lease residuals money factors were easy to find for Porsches. Would love to know what the current rates are for the boxster S

Visiting my Porsche dealer tomorrow. Gonna be running some scenarios for the 718 and the previous gen Cayman. We will see if I like it haha

Something about Porsche has always done it for me. Not sure if it's the masterpiece styling or the fact that some of the cars have half the hp but are 10x more engaging then comparable cars. It's just an awesome, fun, and gorgeous all around car. I swore a Porsche would be my next fun car
