I think the above post is a little harsh. I don't think he ever wanted the position and was talked into it "for the good of the party". I think he had presidential aspirations, which is interesting because it seems every person who has taken the post recently has been villified afterwards (Gingrich (justifiably villified), Hastert, Pelosi, Boenher, and now Ryan).

What will be interesting is to see who will fill the position after the midterms. I wouldn't touch it if I ambitions to higher office.

I don't think it is harsh enough. I'll keep it short, but there are plenty of one word descriptors to apply to his political career. And now when he sees the mess he helped create he is running as fast as he can for the exit instead of trying to fix it.

Also, if you read any of the God thread you could see he is one of my least favorite types of people. Purports/purported to be a super Christian, but does everything that goes against what I understand that religion teaches you to do.

So yah, not a fan. Good riddance.........................

I've never read the GOD thread. I think I would get myself in trouble. A man's (or woman) got to know his limitations. But I always liked Ryan. A bit to the right of me on a lot of issues, but I always liked him.

If you like him you like him, but his legacy isn't good to say the least. Nor will history look kindly to him. In a nutshell he tried to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and elderly while giving tax breaks to the rich (the anti Christian part IMO). Which, is exacerbating the wealth gap even more.

Even with these efforts he has helped put us in a very precarious financial position. In a time when deficits should be coming down they are ballooning out of control. What is going to happen after this short term economic stimulus wears off and the economy takes an inevitable downturn? Then we will really be fucked.

I'm not saying it is anywhere near his fault, but he has pretty much gone against nearly everything he said he stood for and failed miserably IMO.

only thing I'd add is it's totally Ryan's fault: he's the Speaker of the majority party and has the Presidency. His whole job is to deliver legislation that mints his party's aspirations - he failed utterly and miserably.

If you look at everything he's said about his philosophy personally, every criticism he's made of Obama and democrats, every thing he said he wanted to accomplish professionally ... not only has has he failed at every one of them, but he actually done worse than simply not move forward, he's moved us backwards.

His failure is so bad numbers moved in the opposite direction. It's 100% his fault: he's the speaker.

When a CEO not only doesn't make a profit, but bankrupts the country, it's his fault. Yes there's a whole company under him, and a board and chairman for him to answer to, but he's driving and a crash is a crash.

He failed. OMG, did he fail. He failed and then he ran away!

It's probably the largest show of political failure, spinelessness, and cowardice I've seen in my adult life.

He's a man without honor, integrity, principle, or character. He's a garbage-person who failed his state and his country. And he blamed his family for running away.

Hey, we all fail at stuff - that's fine, even encouraged! The key though is, you take ownership: you explain why the failure happened, you talk about what you learned, and if necessary you talk about what you're going to do to make it right and do what you said, versus what you actually did. You say it's your fault if only because you accepted the title of leader.

Ryan's been acting like Mr. Professional for a decade and then when comes time for him to step up, he not only trips, but then he sits on the floor crying ... and then runs away ... and then blames his family!

It's like the biggest guy on your football team, the guy who's been rousing the team with warrior calls for the whole training season ... in the first game he gets hit, crys, and then runs away. And then says he can't play football anymore because his family is too important.

I have no idea how Ryan lives with himself.

I thought Rex Tillerson turned into a husk of a man, but Ryan is like the perfect example of what full, complete, and total dishonor looks like.

Does he not understand how negotiations work? I was sure he didn't understand how basic economics works (magic!!) but I was hopeful he actually had a grasp of how to negotiate since he did claim to a career in sales.

USA had the upper hand in every damn deal and your states department was the envy of the world. In just a year , we've gotten this. Unreal.

Honestly, I'm still waiting for Trump to propose the US government does some sort of bankruptcy protection to wipe away a bunch of debt. I'm not even kidding with that thought. Just wait for the financial/market chaos then.

As for Paul Ryan, not a fan. He suffered from 2 opposite but equally terrible faults:

1. He started out as an idealogue. The classically never matured boy who discovered Ayn Rand at age 16 and spouted off her shit for years and years and years, figuring that because he could stand her tortured prose he had found the solution.
2. Then, in the end, he sold out ANY principles and just got a big tax cut for the wealthy and said 'fuck you' to anything else

He presided over the death of principled pragmatism in the GOP and neither the party nor the country should forgive his legacy.

....but at the very least, you'll get to pay for that legacy for the next 100 years or so....
