upper windshield seal

Anybody ever have to replace their windshield seals.....specifically the top one in front of the roof? That is without replacing the windshield itself.......

The used car I got sat outside and it is dry rotted. I hope the windshield does not have to be removed

That is why I am asking the lower one can be done with wipers off, the sides I think can also but have not found anything on the top. I might have to ask a bmw collision shop..... have not had a chance to go to one yet

I just took a peak in ista for you and unfortunately, you need to remove windshield. Looks like the top seal has tape and it sticks to the inside part of the the windshield. This reminds me that i should gummi pflege all the rubber bits of the car. Been putting it off for a while now...

Not yet...... I removed the rest of the crumbling seal and had a strip of PPF put across the leading edge since the last mountain drive resulted in some pretty bad roof chips

I have not found anything online that explains how it is installed. Guess I will wait till the windshield brakes and have it all replaced under my insurance

i dont think it should cost that much to remove the windshield to install new rubber seal. i would imagine it's super easy to do for a pro windshield guy.

I will go to a reputable windscreen repair shop and have it seal the gap with a nice bead of black silicone and call it the day until screen breaks and the repair can be done. Water eventually will sip in thru the gap.

I doubt it will leak from the looks of the diagram.... the top flap is what has dried out. I have the full surround set so will replace the lower piece near the hood. Can someone go into ISTA and look up the procedure to do the sides of the windshield? If I can do them myself I will try but windshield removal is out of the question. If it breaks then I just use my $100 deductible windshield replacement policy but right now it is not broken

Thanks for the help

Just have a brick "magically" fly into the windshield.

Yea but I got a deal on the complete set for like the cost of the bottom piece which I can see and it falling apart too. That one I can and will replace myself. Just have remove the wiper arms. But guess I will sit on the other 3 pieces for now

I purchased my car used a couple months ago and it didn't have the upper trim. Safelite guy said it would be fine (I was getting a rock chip looked at).
The lower part (the cowl) needs to be replaced on my car too. Gonna replace that in the spring. It's like $130 or so for the part.

I haven't had any issues and the guy seemed pretty knowledgeable so I guess I'll find out
