Had my 1200 oil change done yesterday, they used 10w60 here in the motherland, and for the super low price of 26 Euros a quart...Practically giving away free $400 US oil changes

There is a few different part number for the diff fluid in the U.S. as well; I know its the SAF-XJ 75W-140 of the e9x but is it the plain version or the 500ml bottle with the FM booster/modifier? FYI part number 83229405462 shows as MSP/A or SAF-XO not SAF-XJ Last edited by miula; 08-15-2014 at 08:34 AM.. |

I was told yesterday when I gave my SA the part list from this post that 2 of them are European part numbers and they couldn't get them. Is that accurate?
Below are the part numbers. Screw for engine oil pan/plug: 11 11 7 849 396 Screw for differential: 33 11 7 525 064 |

IDK... the engine oil plug shows as a USA part. The diff plug shows up as being used on USA and for EU cars. So what was the problem? Did they not do your service or use new parts(drain plugs) ??? Just have them look up the parts in their ETK for your car. They should have no problems ordering nw drain plugs for the engine and (2)for the diff.

Hey Dack, can you shed some light on the situation with the diff. fluid (I would really hate to have the wrong one listed on the sticky)
The part number you listed 83229405462 shows as MSP/A or SAF-XO not SAF-XJ and it says it has been discontinued in the U.S. The SAF-XJ with FM booster shows up as 83222282583 (same as E9X) at least for the U.S., there is also 83221470080 which shows as SAF-XJ without the FM booster. Any ideas??? |

SAF-XJ can be used where XO is spec'd. XJ is for all M car diffs. SAF-XJ one 500ml bottle is: 83 22 2 282 583 The problem with gear oils is that most BMW dealers buy the oil in 60L or 600L or 6,000L quantities. Then the dealer assigns the oil their "own" part number. This varies from dealer to dealer. Best thing to do is order the gear oil in 1 liter bottles from bmw.

Attached is what they did to the car today. Looks like they didn't install a new diff screw. Should I go back and explain to them that I need that part installed?

I think your car will be ok. Afterall you still have the warranty if anything goes wrong. My bet, is a lot of dealers are not changing out these plugs for new ones.

I just dropped my car off for its 1200 mile maintenance, and they said that they're only changing the diff fluid. They said that the engine oil doens't need to be changed until 9000+ miles or 1 yr (which ever comes first). This doesn't seem to be what others are experiencing.

Thanks Sir Loin. Does the manual say that both need to be changed? My manual's in the car so I can't check, and the online version doesn't specify.

I just checked the manual in the car. It doesn't say specifically what service needs to be performed at 1,200 miles. The dealer's computer must already have the exact procedure documented. They just didn't check. The picture above is a pretty good prove.
