Sounds verrrry promising. I'm also a weenie, so I'll wait until there's more history on this. If it pans out, I'm definitely doing this!

This is either a dud, or noone wants to do it. 1 Month in I would have absolutely programmed this, Just as easy to hit my M1 button to put it in sport plus which is my standard daily driving mode anyhow. I don't find it jerky at all and my muscle memory is completely in tune with it.

If someone is brave enough to try this I'd still make sure the car is in neutral and test start without pushing the clutch in to make sure it really doesn't start up with the clutch out. All it takes is one attempted startup in gear with the clutch out for this to become a very expensive experiment.

have more people been trying this? i'm waiting the requisite 6 months before i try it... just hoping others who are less risk-averse are trying this now? i'm not an early adopter, but am very hopeful about this. sport plus is not an acceptable solution for me.

I've read about issues with disabling the clutch start lock on the older model cars, gotta google around to see what the issues were though.

Yippee!!!

Thanks KiteSurfer, for the informative post. I can confirm that this worked great on my F30 340i.

I tried coding both off, clutch and brake, and it was weird. My car wouldn't start. You have to push the starter button twice, and even then, the automatic starting sequence wouldn't work. Normally, if you hit the start button briefly, the starter will engage for about a full second even though you are no longer pressing on the button, to start the car. But if you code both pedals off, that feature no longer works and you have to hold the button down until the engine catches. I could live with that, but not the double press. It just confuses me.

Plus, even with both clutch and brake inactivated, you still need to push the clutch pedal in to start the car, regardless of anything else that you do.

There are a lot of neat other features that can be modified if you decide to do this. Now, if you have an older car than me (mine is a 2016) the features may not be available to you, but I did stuff like remove the iDrive disclaimer, added actual speed to the OBC display, added tire temperature to the TPMS display (awesome!) and some other trivial things.

Just be careful. There is always the possibility of hosing the ECU if you make a mistake, click the wrong button or change the wrong parameters.

Inadvertent actuation

Similarly, I've been rolling for the past 3 months with rev matching disabled - but difference was I was unsure which coding action affected the change. As LuvMyE92 pointed out, coding both clutch and brake causes a major change in the start sequence, so much so that the first start attempt after coding caused me to think I had done irreparable damage to some segment of the ECU. As with the rev matching though, I'm finally accustomed to pressing the start button once and then holding it until the engine catches.

In all honesty, the lack of rev matching has made me a more precise and better driver, as there is more of a "penalty" for each shift in that they require more attention, a limited commodity while driving. Therefore, I find myself plotting out downshifts much further out, and making fewer of them. My throttle control is much better for it though. However, I do miss the option of using it when tired or just lazy, and find it unconscionable that the option would not be made available through a defeatable switch or at least through iDrive, as a hundred other less important options exist.

OP: Good catch. If I had done the coding as it should be done, i.e. one step at a time, with a detailed evaluation of the results, this would have been documented a long while before. Reinforcing the eternal lesson: be careful while coding

I'm surprised not more 6mt drivers tested this yet

I would be super annoyed if my 3 pedals car doesn't allow me to rev match on my own except in Sport+ mode

I also found this post from here - http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&postcount=197

Did anyone figure out how to add rev match to Sport plus?

I found myself heel/toeing anyway, even with rev matching enabled. As mentioned, muscle memory is strong. I can say that 90% of the time, the car was quicker than I was on the blip, so most of the time, my downshifts were two blips.

I did get used to it, and found that I could "turn on" heel/toe in Sport+.

Anybody think there will ever be an option to switch back and forth? Or only have rev matching in efficient for when I'm lazy?

I would also love this. The DCT version of this car rev matches in sport-plus, so it is definitely seems possible to code that function in for our cars.

Has anyone gone more into depth with this? I'd like to be able to retain the rev match feature just for comfort, then have it disabled in sport/+ modes.

still following this. still too big a wuss to be the guinea pig. still itching to do all my own matching before my footwork suffers. thankfully i still have the 135i to keep my teeth sharp, but that'll be for sale soon, making the m4 my only manual car!

I'm curious also. It would be nice to be able to rev match myself when I track the car but sport plus is way too aggressive for track use in my opinion.

I can confirm that disabling rev matching as in the OP's post works. I liked it enough to code it back on though.

Nice

You buy $70K car to disable/enable some features to get $30K car. It is not easy to enable/disable it sometimes, but you are so persistent.
Of course, cars are not the same, you cannot drift with $30K.

BMW does need to worry with that kind of buyers.
