harness options for stock seat
Hi Guys,
Are there any options to use a harness or seat belt adapter to hold you in during an HPDE session without the use of roll cage or special seat. I saw someone with an e90 that used a shroth 4 point harness using two anchors: one on front seat and two on rear sets. I know the f8x stock seat is one piece which could complicate things. Thanks, Steve |

You will need a seat, but can skip the full cage and use a harness bar

For the last 2 months I have grappled with the idea of buying Cobra Nogaro's seats + BK H-bar...I even harvested BMW manual seat sliders from a lovely junk yard in Staten Island. But, as someone who does 5-10 track days a year, I am not sure it's worth the effort and compromises to the daily drivability.
I would seriously consider swapping my F80 for a G80 w/ carbon buckets if there is an easy harness solution. |

BK is a great option
I've heard of people using the Mini Cooper 4 point QuickFit harness but I wouldn't recommend it. Just switching to a sportier (fixed back) seat would make a world of difference |

Some clubs don’t allow seatbelt modifications without a half cage.
One option: CG-lock https://www.windingroad.com/articles...atbelt-add-on/

1. Move the seat 7 or so inches back and also recline a bit.
2. Feed the seatbelt into the pillar until the belt is nice and tight across your chest. 3. Yank on the belt very quickly so that it locks 4. Press on the seat memory button to move the seat to the old desired position. 5. Now the belt is super tight and won't come loose, thus holding you in place. If the belt is too tight or not too tight then play around with how much you move your seat back before you yank on the belt to lock it. |

You would probably save quite a bit of $ on aftermarket seats.

True although I would like to stay OEM as much as possible. If the G80 seats are at the right price then why not?

OP, one other thing to consider, different clubs / events have very different rules.
My M2 needs new 6-point harnesses because of their manufacture date for PCA. It will depend on the rules of the group you are track driving with. My M2 needs a fire extinguisher for SCCA time attack, because of the 1/2 cage, but they don’t care how old the belts are. WTF? Some groups want a shop receipt from having your car inspected, others let you self inspect your car. It is all over the board.
