Aspheric (EU) exterior mirrors
Has anyone successfully swapped their side mirrors' glass to the EU version (aspheric, much wider coverage of blind spot + no stupid warning)?
I can source from Europe but for now I'm unable to find a part that's specific to the F80. Does the F80 maybe use the same mirror glass as the F30 (though the mirror housings are obviously different)? Any info is appreciated! (and yes I did search so apologies in advance if I missed an existing thread, might be using the wrong vernacular for what I'm looking for) |

At a guess by looking at the second link, wide angle has a flat mirror with a curved end that gives a wider angle. Convex is curved all over, although note that it appears that only part 4 (the passengers side convex mirror) is curved. Part 3 is described as flat (probably what you already have).

Thanks! I see those darker areas now, I had missed that.
IME EU mirrors are fully convex (albeit even more so towards the "end part" than in the center) so maybe the Gulf or Korea versions shown at your link are not the full-fledged EU mirrors?... This is confusing but I'm headed to Europe (France) next week anyway so may stop by a BMW dealer while there to ask what part numbers they show in their local system. |

I think you're right.
For the right-hand side that leaves only 51168059568 For the left-hand side, since our US M3s have auto-dim (I assume that what they mean by "auto-dip" and electric seats with memory, my guess is I need 51168065297 On to figure out where I can find them... Thanks for all the help! |

I've had them on previous M3s (E46 and E90) and they are great. It's such a simple solution to a problem that doesn't rely on sensors to fix. I wish the US would allow them here.

That would mean right is 51168059566 and left is 51168059565. But upon Googling 51168059568 (from the second link), I stumbled upon ECS tuning selling a 51168059568KT (note the KT in the end, presumably for "kit"), which contains both a left and right-hand side mirror. Since they're based in OH one would assume they carry the correct parts for US M3s... Though they have them shipping in September so ... Very confusing. |

Ordered!
In Europe for a few days, reached out to a BMW dealer here and they ordered 51168059567 and 51168059568 for me when I explained what I was after.
I won't know for a couple more weeks if they got it right because they couldn't ship straight to the US so I had them ship it to a buddy here and I'll pick them up when I next have to be here. Price was about EUR 150 for each mirror. |

INSTALLED!
All right so I was in France over the weekend and picked up the mirrors I had ordered. Installed them last night, done in 5 minutes, and gone are the blind spots !
Absolutely awesome mod, I can't for the life of me understand why NA regulations prevent the installation of what is in my mind an immensely superior rearview setup. Anyway, for the record, here are the parts: |

Though I'll tell you right now: yes, proper adjustment of US-style mirror will help, but it's still nowhere near as good as the proper aspheric version in my opinion. |
