>10% Ethanol on Stock?

https://apnews.com/article/biden-bus...f4813334aeae64
Most gasoline sold in the U.S. is blended with 10% ethanol, a biofuel that is currently cheaper than gas. Biden was announcing that the Environmental Protection Agency will issue an emergency waiver to allow widespread sale of a 15% ethanol blend that is usually prohibited between June 1 and Sept. 15 because of concerns that it adds to smog in high temperatures.
BMW says up to 10% ethanol will not void warranty, etc.... I don't think gas stations are required to disclose how much ethanol is at the pump, so effectively that means not knowing if the gas station in question is pumping over this amount.

Is there a way to mitigate this?

Please ask those who use E85 (blended I'm sure) what they think. Can BMW tell? How many still have a warranty? I AM THE WARRANTY! For me, I'm looking forward to it! It only degrades the fuel system components only *slightly* more/faster. Not enough at 15% to make a difference.

Excessive ethanol in fuel can cause ck engine/drivetrain warning. 10% is max allowable according to bmw.
This news about raising ethanol content will definitely keep the insurance companies busy when bmw refuses to pay for certain complaints that lead back to ethanol content....
Keep all of your fuel receipts just in case!

I run 20% ethanol frequently (93 octane gas with some E85 added) and have had no problems. My logs were all clean too.

I splash 1.5-1.8 gallons of E (=E18-20) with 91 on every fill up and car feels good. No hesitation, no cel or drivetrain malfunction.

Close to a year now as I have 3 stations close to me. I started with 1 gallon, then 1.2 and so forth and checking weekly for codes.

No, I didn't keep all those logs. As long as the STFTs stayed good the fuel mix wasn't too thin. I delete logs after the tune is done final revisions. The fuel in my tank now is a little under E20 since I just switched back to my gas tune (added 3.5gal of 93 to my 2gal of E40 remaining in tank).

Ok, well you have 4 years worth (technically 2) of using it to no harm.

If you fuel up with 12gals of gas plus 2gals of E85 you get 14gals of E20. This mix seems to run very smooth and adds a little bit of performance.

If you started with 93 octane this mix ups it to 94.15, and if you started with 91 you get 92.4 octane.

This mix is almost a must for ACN gas…

Pretty safe for the newer cars. The older cars may get some corrosion issues over time. More maintenance for them

Its at least not a bad thing, and possibly a good one. I imagine some guys start running cleaner logs.

Agreed Jimmy, for those with 91 Octane or worse gas like me (I only have 90 Octane). An additive of some sort is a must, and ethanol in my opinion is the best octane booster/additive you can use to treat pump fuel. I wouldn't go over E20 and call it a day if you're on a stock tune or 91/93 tune.

On the topic of additives…in the beginning I used Boostane Pro to up my octane but that stuff costs your exhaust and O2 sensors with orange powder. It's not good.

Ethanol is the right choice for us.

All those Octane Boosters that contain MMT like VP Octanium and Boostane work, and are pretty convenient as they'll come in a 32 Ounce Can. However, no matter how much Octane Booster you'll add, it will never have the same affect when it comes to adding power as an oxygenated fuel like ethanol. Also for those with Pump E-85 available, it is the much more economical choice, considering that the good Octane Boosters run somewhere between $25-$30 for a can.
