Updated with video: Oil Temp Gauge Failing
I have a brand new 2016 M3 with 1,600 miles.
Started the car up this morning and instantly a "Engine Oil Temp too High" warning came on in the car. Note the car has been sitting for a couple days. I turned the car off and back on and no light, so I thought everything was ok. I drove over 30 minutes to work and the oil temp needle never moved off the left side of the gauge. Has anyone had this issue before? I'm not sure if it's just the gauge malfunctioning or the engine oil actually staying that cool. Any input would be appreciated.

I'd go dealer / warranty request for sure.
Please report back here with whatever the dealer documents as the fix. These sorts of things are very helpful down the road when cars start being out of warranty and people need to search old threads for what recommended fixes are for specific issues like this.

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah the sensor is definitely not working right. I just turned the car on again and the needle tries to move up and then fell right back down to the far left.

The ambient temp sensor failure seems to be more common as I have seen many over the years. Mike |
