Because you would take an example of a 911 Turbo? Even the 911 Turbo is no 911 GT3. And look how the MP4-12C failed against the 458 Italia. Of course they are better than a Cooper S or Golf GTI, but they also cost more. Don't expect GT-R technology in an M3. However I agree, that M knows the problem and does its best, fact the 1M and M5. So no doubt the M3 F80 will be good.

I agree that the 1M and M5 show that the powerplant in the next M3/M4 won't disappoint. The only thing really to be missed is that NA V8 sound and 8k redline. Apart from that I have no doubt that performance/consumption will be better than E9x M3. Also, I think if the F30 is anything to go by the next M3/M4 should be lighter.

Anything is a better comparison than a Mini Cooper and a Golf. It would not surprise me if the next-gen M3 motor is just as good a tool as the current 911 Turbo motor.

Going to drive the 458 and MP4 in two weeks, then I can give input on that comparo. Most of the reviews I've read of the MP4 seem like the drivers are confused in terms of what the car is going to do; not necessarily a complaint about the motor.

The F80 is angry at the release date.
After all the anticipation, the F80 premiere in Geneva in 2014 and thus probably get in late summer 2014 in the trade.

The F30 has arrived in February 2012 on the market, thus probably in autumn 2015 to get a facelift.
So now you can buy an F80 autumn 2014 as one of the first, so the car will be one year later it is old because the facelift will be integrated ...

Exactly like what happened with the E90M.

The F80 and F82 were given their own "F" codes as BMW M realized that they replaced or modified 80% of the F10 M5 so it would meet their requirements. 80% of a changed product is not the same product- they anticipated the same for the new M3/4 and requested separate internal codes for development.

CR was on to something. C&D's most recent M5 comparison test corroborates what others including CR have been saying about the new series of BMWs.

I personally love high revving motors for daily drivers. That's why I traded the GTI in for an e90 M3 last week. Was going to wait until the GTI's warranty ran out next year, but BMW stopped producing s65 engined M3 sedans.

The new turbo M3 will be great I'm sure, but they won't work all the bugs out until it has been in production for a couple of years.
