Retrofit / recall on M3 and M4 : 19 inch wheels on all Ms for last 5 months?!

Just got a call from my CA to tell me that my m4 convertible that's been stuck at the port for a month waiting to be shipped is being held by distribution due to possible hairline cracks in the stock wheels provided by BBS (19 inch only)

He said that all cars in the last 5 months of production are affected and all wheels need to be replaced, cars on the road first, then ones in distro. My car will sit at the port in Germany for 6-9 more weeks.

Anyone else hear this? Seems like a MAJOR issue..... A major recall.

I tell you hearing all of these bs delays and issues really makes me annoyed what everyone has been dealing with. I mean this is just ridiculous for a brand like BMW to be putting out. I have never heard of these issues with any other brand. I will call my dealer today and ask about this. Would you happen to know if BMW issued a bulletin yet? My car was built in August. Maybe they can swap me into a black set. Dissapointing reading these threads in delay after delays just to get one of these cars.

Is this just the black rims or all
19s? Seems like the problem some of us experienced is rippling out to the rest of the market.

I will try and find out, this explains why my car has been sitting since 9/17 at the port though and when I call it just states that it's 'being transported to the port of exit'

Never should sit there a month. I'll see what info I can get, supposedly BBS, the wheel manufacturer is in a scurry now

Are you still major delayed due wheels? Reading other threads i was under the impression BMW ran out of wheels to install but now if there is a Recall everyones car will be delayed for a long time. Winter is approaching for some and taking delivery of this little rocketship during winter is not fun for most.

There is a large thread on this exact issue in the Ordering Forum.

When I called BMW NA yesterday, they said 175+ M3s and M4s are affected. The delay is 9-10 weeks. My car completed production on 10/1, and apparently my wheels are ok after talking to them. We will see if that holds true or not. My car is currently on a ship to the U.S. as we speak.

Oh wow if its truly a huge recall like this I can understand why they won't let us just swap to other wheels.

DMK it's beginning to look like our suspicions about a large batch of bad wheels are turning out to be true.

Mine finished production on 9/17 and I am affected, wondering if yours got on the ship and will be fixed at the VPC

I asked to be delivered with 18's and then swapped later and they said they won't be doing that

Yeah, I'm guessing this is what is going to happen to mine as well, even though the lady said my car is not flagged and passed inspections in Germany.

My guess is this is fixed on cars produced week 40 or later. Those cars seem to have shipped and they knew to stop the earlier cars. I bet you're fine fortress.

My car is currently at Brunswick VPC with black 19's so I wonder if it too is affected. I have not received a call about it but also have no PDC date.

It could be worse. At least this is a far cry from what GT3 owners experienced

Yup. Still delayed. Issue seems to be coming into focus now. Had a
Choice between two dealers when I ordered. Picked the one with the 4 week earlier production slot. Should have waited. Oh well - hindsight. Agree with you - taking delivery in dec / jan is no bueno. Silver lining, should be through break in period when better weather arrives.

Possibly, I'll let you know as soon as I find out. If this recall is affecting cars on already on the road, that would be a bit nerve racking.

If this is true then the people who already have their cars should ride those rims all winter and pick up a fresh set in spring.

What week was it produced? And I don't think anyone knows that answer yet.

There is a possibility. I would contact your dealer and BMW NA as soon as possible to see if your car is on the list of affected cars.

In all due respect taking down pict I posted, this for some will not be a laughing matter. Sorry for the disrespect.
