M4Miami ratted them out to save his car, kinda like robbing a bank and pointing fingers at someone else to not get the blame, of course they'll get mad. The general public overreacted to the whole situation. The state troopers seized there electronics but couldn't find a single "race" video. Oh and btw they get there cars back soon everything is settled and the troopers were in the wrong.

This still makes no sense to me. If nothing wrong was done then there is nothing to rat anybody out about.

If it is all settled why do they have to wait a week to get their cars? Shouldn't they be able to pick them up whenever they want?

I don`t know about the states but here in Canada I am pretty sure the cops can`t just take your phone and look through it without consent. That is kind of messed up.

There are various state laws and overall it's not settled*, so sort yes and no EXCEPT:

The US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), according to federal statutes, regulations and court decisions, have the authority to inspect, without a warrant, any person trying to gain entry into the country and their belongings. CBP can also question individuals about their citizenship or immigration status and ask for documents that prove admissibility into the country. Many US citizens don't realize the CBP can search the data on their devices or deny entry*.

In short, they can ask for your phone and access codes and if you don't provide them, deny you entry into the country.

So anyone coming into the US can be compelled to allow a full search of their phones, laptops, tablets, etc. If you don't want to risk the search but still need entry to the US then store your info in the cloud and wipe your phone.

*As for inside the US:
• If you consent to a search, the police don’t need a warrant
• Law enforcement may show up at your door. Apart from a few exceptions (your consent, probable cause), police need a warrant to enter your home
• Be aware that the police can ask your roommate/guest/spouse/partner for access to your computer if they don’t have a warrant
• Even if you’re arrested, police can only search your phone under limited circumstances (they believe there's evidence that will be destroyed)
• As above, police can search your computer or portable devices at the border without a warrant

So, these guys may have given consent OR the police may have acted under the belief that the evidence was under threat of being immediately destroyed.

* and CBP has this power within a 100 mile zone around ANY BORDER. However, border officials in Alaska, Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon and Washington can only search your device if they have reasonable suspicion you’ve engaged in criminal behavior. (United States v. Cotterman) w00t california!

If you are going to sit here and say driving a BMW at 100 is the same as a minivan at 100 you are out of your mind. Both are illegal and unsafe on publicroads, but the minivan will more likely get you and others killed. Im not saying it is okay for the original poster to drive at 100 (that is just stupid), but it is definitely less okay (if we try and quantify it) for a minivan.

And dont you live in California? Dude just drive up any highway in the Central Valley and you will see minivans and old 90s Toyota trucks doing like 110. In fact on our last road trip to Napa we saw a Sienna doing at least 90 blow by us. Couple miles later we saw them flipped off the side of the road, luckily it looked like the driver was okay, but dont sit there and act like minivans with crazy drivers dont drive at 100+. I mean come on.

Either way, dont condone driving at those speeds on public roads at all. But some cars on the road should NEVER drive that fast. When was the last time you saw a minivan at a track day?
Nurburgring
Jesus I really want to believe that Mr.T is driving that thing.

Hey, could be worse. Unless you want him to bleed all over the place.
