No way. "High Performance Sports Sedan" or "Sporty" are terms I would use. It's most certainly NOT a Supercar. I wouldn't even call a base 911 a Supercar.

Sounds like the M3 is probably a pretty big step up from anything else your friend has driven, which is fine it is truly an amazing car and one I want very badly right now, but it isn't even remotely close to super car level. I'd be very curious to hear if your friend thinks the M3 is the absolute entry level to super car or if there are other cars below the M3 that he also considers super cars?

Honestly if I had to pick any regular release BMW ///M car to call a super car I would pick the e63 M6. That car was entry level exotic IMO and one I will always miss (other than it not being able to travel more than 3k miles without breaking down).

To the poster above that said his 991GT3 RS is not a super car - I would disagree on that sir!

Well, it could still be considered a super-sedan, but not as much as when the category was created with the AMG Hammer and the E28 M5. However, the super-sedan category has moved on, albeit without a MT option.

Supercar: Ferrari 458, etc.

Hypercar: La Ferrari, P1, etc.

Seriously, a hard NO to the M3 being a supercar. I don't consider any F8x in that class, GTS included. But +1 to the above... interested to get perspective on what other cars your buddy thinks are supercars. If he starts listing cars like the Cayman, Exige, RS5, GT350, GTR and such, his perception is a obviously very different than most. They're all great cars in their own right, but not what most would consider to be in the "supercar" echelon. You're getting into the exotic marques - Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, etc., but of course there are exceptions like the Viper.

Although, I don't consider many cars with back seats to be supercars, well, at least back seats with enough room to do "stuff" in.
