Is the F80 M3 a supercar?

Real Supercar definition?
All sold out before the first one even comes out of the factory.
If you are not on the list, forget about getting one.
$500,000+
The M3 does not even come close. No BMW ever did.

I think it's a supercar in that only a BMW M car owner would ask if an M car is a supercar.

ill gauge it from my experience of picking up my kids on the school run in my M4. i often get my sons mates (7yr olds) saying things like "Sick Beemer man" or "Josh, your dads car is wicked". This puts it in the realms of great car/respected fast and good looking car for me.

when i get the other mums asking for rides / making pointless small talk / giving me the wink ill promote it to supercar status.. but so far that hasnt happened

I know we are talking semantics, but with the adaptation of the hypercar moniker, wouldn't the supercar labe see a decrease in prestige? Wouldn't a 918 classify as a hypercar, potentially making a 911 Turbo S a supercar?

Simple answer is No.

On the other hand, I guess it's all relative. For someone coming from sub 200hp cars, or in countries where F80 costs north of 200K, F80 will be like a supercar, but for someone with an exotic, it'll feel big and slow.

I'm guessing there are some people in the world consider their pedestrian ferrari/mclaren as a sports car but dreams about their "super cars" like bugatti or koenigsegg.
In the other hand, those who are fortunate to have bugattis and koenigseggs might dream about ferrari gto 250 or something of that caliber in $50Mil+ range...

Have him check under the hood. BMW M engineers have been known to hide “M3 super car” stickers in funny places! Maybe HE HAS one of them!!! Make sure he removes the head cover and disassembles the transmission. A lot of times you have to spray the engine parts with blinker fluid so as to reveal the hidden message as it is written with super duper secret invisible ink.
