It's not a Ferrari engine as in supplied by....it is just Ferrari tuned from what has been released.
Not sure why it's hard to believe that it's that fast, it has 500 plus horses, active aero and and very light.
The above video wasn't for time, manufacturers have special block times dedicated for them just for recording laps and data.

I've decide I don't care anyway, I'm never running my car at the 'ring nor am I coming even remotely close to pushing my car to where I will be fighting for tenths of seconds at a track. I just pick the car I like that happens to be fast enough.....fast enough to please me.

entirely possible.

nice looking car. much nicer curves than the c63 or the ats-v. makes those other 2 cars look... ordinary.

Nice! The only M3 competitor I'm going to bother driving of what is presented this far, not because it's really fast around the ring but because it's the only overall car that interests me, the rest all have some big dis-qualifiers. But I'll likely be so turned off by the dealership that I'll walk out before getting to the car...BMW does offer a hard to beat package with the M3, pricing with ED, backup from dealer and corporate, quality etc, etc. they make it hard to leave. Alfa has a lot to prove to become a real threat even if the car itself seem very cool, when new at least...

This doesnt make sense since Sport Auto times are always slower than manufacturer times. That needs to be taken into consideration.

Aside from that, BMW has never really been that fast on track with any car they've built, especially the Ring where the only recently broke 8 mins a lap while most of the big boys have been doing it for decades. The m4 in particular hasnt shown to put down very good laps times, at least not for its weight and hp.

Looks like Alfa is bringing it right to them the way Merc and Caddy are.

"Aside from that, BMW has never really been that fast on track with any car they've built"

Taken that BMW has never purpose built a road going sports car from the ground up other than the M1 I'd say they've done well. You usually see more BMWs on the track than any of it's competitors. From what I see of the latest generations I think it's a fair guess that it will remain like this for a long time. BMW has a target on it's back and every luxury car manufacturer wants beat the M3 and M5 on the ring, do you think this is because they never been particularly fast or because they are benchmarks in their segments?

This video needs to come soon, but what makes it weirder is that I thought manufacturers couldn't run timed laps.

Yeah but that is with a full tank of gas a tons of options. It is still the lightest in the class.. and BMW probably can find more weight to cut

I see the Alfa coming in at the same weight with all full tank and options.. just going to have 105 more HP

An interesting competitor, not sure if I actually like the way it looks though, especially from the back. It's tidy enough, but seems japanese to me, madza 6ish or Lexus.

The first time I saw this car on a "Cars to Watch for in 2016" list, I thought from the back it was the new Lexus F series sedan of some kind, given those angled quad pipes and the taillight styling.

Really wish they thought of making it more unique like the styling from the 4C Competizone (round tails etc.), really more Alfa esk.

Saying they are benchmarks in their segments isn't saying much since the competition in those two segments has never been all that strong...up until the last couple years. Once outside those segments, they get crushed.

I'd also argue that their GTS models are pretty hardcore, they've just been utter failures.

The upcoming ZCP will likely do a 7:45-47 on street tires anyway, the GTS is probably going to be a low 7:30's car, and the CSL is anybody's guess.

I certainly hope that the Giulia will be better than the M3, so I have a reason to get one when my current lease ends. I hope it forces BMW to improve the M3 so that in the end, we the drivers win.

I want to know what tires are on this car and what, if any, factory bullshit massaging (aka, "pulling a GM") has happened.

That aside, this Alfa is the most exciting newcomer to this market since Cadillac brought the CTS-V to the table in 2009. The new C-class is ugly and the ATS-V is...well...look at it. But Italy knows how to make good cars and this thing is SUPER EXCITING.

If you think that a better job can be done you cannot blame BMW but you should blame the different governments and their low emission laws. Because if it were not for these laws the cars would have been a sh*tload better but not ecological enough. It takes years and years to engineer a car and comparing the new Alfa that has not been released yet with a car such as the M4 by the time the Alfa is released is already 2 years old is like comparing apples to oranges.

People will never be happy and they always want more and better and they want it now but this is not how the economy works.
