New rotor hats look abraded?

Has anybody seen this before? I got four new Genuine BMW rotors and the rotor hats look scraped. One pic is one side of the hat and a couple pics of what I’m describing. All four rotors show this to some extent, but am I missing something? I sprayed brake cleaner and IPA and neither removed it.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by scraped? The surface of the rotor hat looks like a typical finish for a cast part with a rough surface. Critical features are post-machined as needed.

Looks fine to me. You are looking at it much more closely than 99% of people ever will. It is not a cosmetic part. It is cast, and will come out roughed up in places. They will have a manufacturing process to smooth that out, which will abrade away rough spots. It is not going to affect it functionally at all. They obviously consider the M logo a bit more important cosmetically

I just don't remember my old rotors having any of the markings. They all looked like the bottom image, until they rusted of course. Maybe I'll try cleaning it with wheel cleaner and a brush and see if it is a substance and not casting marks.

I understand it's not a cosmetic part, but I definitely want it to look right, especially if I went BMW (yes, for the M stamp ) instead of SHW.

Let us know how it goes. It still looks like any other oem 380/370 mm rotors I’ve seen and installed. I don’t think the cost of an additional M logo on an oem brake rotor is worth it when you know the SHW is the OE supplier and their rotor is 99.999% (no M logo, otherwise it’s 100%) identical to the oem rotor with an M logo
