Dealer replacing leaking charge air cooler - still in warranty
Was leaking I believe into the intake. So... anyone have any experience with the replacement being of better quality, this is a 2016 M4. This was the second time in for this, last time 3 weeks ago, for the "drivetrain malfunction", first time they said the charge coolant was low, refilled, purged and pressure checked OK at the time. Damn, I hope it didn't eat enough coolant to cause issues down the road, 8 months left on warranty.

They replaced mine after warranty, but this is something they know about and that is happening quite a few cars. Ever since the replacement about 20k miles ago i've had no issues.

Glad to hear you got it fixed under warranty. May I ask how far outside of warranty? I still have warranty until next year. But, I would rather get one replaced sooner then later. Because it is a known issue.

unfortunately, some owners of later model cars (manufactured after the new superceded part was introduced) have also experienced what seems to be the same failure including myself. I'm just glad I was also still in warranty.

Good to hear. Is there a part number for it on your service record? Reason I ask is that in another thread, someone indicated that the supposedly newer version of the charge cooler was introduced in 2015 and yet some cars built after that year are still suffering the problem.

Interesting. On the BMW dealer parts websites it is listed as having that part number, as well as having superseded both the same number and a prior number. Not sure if that means the new one you got is truly improved over the original, or simply a new one of the same quality (or lack thereof lol).
