Staining on piano black (exterior) trim...

Hi all,
Does anyone know best way to restore the gloss black trim around windows?
I've tried dozens of things but still "cloudy" marks on there, which may be old water staining and/or sun damage...?
The wide strip under where back of convertible roof sits, is particularly bad.
Are these trims painted and lacquered, or just black plastic?
I'll try and get some decent photos to upload.

A light machine polish will do the trick. It's very soft paint.
