6-speed manual, harsh shifting.

Hi everyone. I have noticed that my shifting feels a bit more harsh and not as smooth as earlier and wonder if anyone else has experienced the same thing. I don't race my car or shift it brutally in any way but i can experience a change in the feel of the shiftings now. Any ideas of what this could be? Car has done 18000 miles.

Johnny.

Not really. 40k miles here. Done an oil change in Dec and haven't noticed much of a difference, but it never hurts to do it if you've not done so already.

Try replacing your gearbox oil with Red Line DCTF or Motul HT-DCTF.

The problem is not the oil as i notice a change in the feel of the lever itself. I wonder if it's right that when you pull the gearlever upwards that there is a play of maybe 1/8". Maybe i'm over sensitive..

Did you notice a difference when you changed oil?

I think they are referring to a DCT transmission and you have a 6spd manual. I have the same feeling. Check your rear diff bushing sometimes a cracked bushing will cause some slight shift issues from what Ive read other members saying here. These transmission are just notchy to shift and sometimes difficult once warmed up they are fine. at some point Id love to buy a second hand one and tear it apart to see what changes could be made to them to beef them up and smooth out some of the notchiness.

With my OEM oil at 40K sometimes early in the mornings shifting into 1st felt sticky or hard to get into. After switching in Red Line DCTF, their recommended oil for the manual-6, my stickiness was gone. This was great for all my hard street use. A day of drag racing at the dragstrip is a whole new use case, and it seems to get the gearbox really hot, which is why I'm going to try the Motul hi-torque and see if the synchros stop slipping after multi-runs.

It's not the diff bushing as the shift feel is the same without any load on the transmission.

Check out your motor mounts. Can introduce some shifting issues that I experienced as well.

Changing out the gear oil is a very easy first step that can be done in the driveway, and $44 gets you 2 liter bottles of good oil. Yes, this DCTF is right for the Manual 6 gearbox.

Since you specifically say it’s the shifter action, why it inspect the shifter bushings/assembly? Maybe some lubrication is in order.

Yes, i guess we will have to take a look at it. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced the same thing and knew what the cause could be but i'll have a look.

Maybe you just got weaker from the pandemic year. Just saying. Think we all did. Plus, just getting older in general. I think I need to start picking things up and putting them down a bunch of times.

Could be your transmission mounts becoming worn and causing deflection. Pulled mine out at 49k miles and I could bend them with little effort.
