I didn't get the cupholder cover on my 17 M4 but I actually had my 2015 M4 cover sitting in my garage and didn't realize so when I found it i started to keep it in the glovebox.
I never use it though i always have a water bottle or a pack of gum in my cup holder.

My 16' did not come with the cover. I ended up buying it after a few months of ownership.

I too Do Not Drink in my car. If I carry a water bottle, it's either in my Gym. bag or in the door nook. Those two (ugly!) gaping - cup holders - holes look awkward (empty) without a proper cover. I sometimes put my house keys inside there for safe keeping, covered. I mostly keep my phone on top of the cover but, on longer trips, it's in the glove box- charging. I put change in the ashtray(w/ lid), right behind these cup holders. Interestingly(?), I specifically requested the, "Smokers Package" for this purpose. I do not smoke. Definitely does look (could be?) cleaner! In addition, I went ahead and purchased the correct part(s) and retrofitted the glove box as it was originally designed to be. Where I keep my sunglasses is where the cover is supposed to go - when not in use. I also agree with the. "mooch" comments. My cars was originally designed a certain way and BMW has gradually de-contented it over its' (series - Spare, Jack, Interior, etc.) lifespan. Cheers! Nope. 4/2016 production. I bought the cover since I don't use cupholders. However, the rolling cover that is (I think) now standard on F30s (or at least other BMWs) seems to be the most convenient approach.
