1,400 miles, break in service notification still not disappearing

I did the break in service at 1170 miles and after the service was done the notification was still there. I told the tech and he tried to reset the computer again and said that the computer won't let him reset any more and that it would go away at 1200 miles. Still hasn't gone away. Any way to clear this without going to the dealer or will it go away at some point?

When the 1200 mile service is performed, the technician is supposed to use a computer hooked up to the vehicle to disable the break-in service. If the tech tried resetting it through the vehicle's cluster, he made a mistake and will now need to perform what's called a CBS data correction which can only be done at the dealer using the computer.

When I did the 1200-mile service on my M3, I used my laptop to reset the service indicator using ISTA. Resetting via the cluster didn't work, and the cluster simply wouldn't let me. With ISTA, you simply select the option to "Reset Running In Service". FWIW, the quality of maintenance the Italian BMW dealer near me offers is below my expectations, so I do most of my maintenance myself.

You need to get it reset properly by a dealer or by yourself with ISTA, otherwise your car wont be eligible for the Certified Pre-owned Program in the future, which can impact your resale value and potential buyers' perception of its maintenance history.

Whoever did your service doesn't sound competent.

Is this dealer M certified? I could talk to your SA and get a tech that knows what he or she is doing.

How can this be done without ISTA?
Is there an aftermarket scan tool option?

Thanks in advance
