PSA: change your trans/diff fluids

The car has 28k miles, with no track use. The car was also relatively stock until the last 5k miles. Both fluids were changed after the break in period.

Can't really ascertain anything from the color. Engine oil is black too when it comes out.

Just did my trans (6MT) and diff as part of my 30k mile maintenance (using the Mike Miller "old school" schedule) - very easy DIY. Had similar colors as well for the old oil. I also had my 6MT done at the 1200 mile service (out of pocket) as it was not covered. I was actually a bit surprised at how dirty it was, given they are both closed systems.....

I've done a quick search but haven't found anything comprehensive but is there a DIY for DCT and diff out there? And what fluids/extra parts do you need to complete this?

The DCT is a different animal when it comes to a fluid change. But here is a start for the procedure after a quick search (but there is more out there)...

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ion/1VnXljlF6b

And for the fluids....

I can’t speak for the DCT, but for the diff you:

-remove the fill plug (it uses a 14mm male hex socket)
-remove the drain plug and drain
-replace the drain plug
-Use a fluid pump to put in 1L of fluid
-Replace fill plug

One additional thing to note/clarify about the diff procedure is that you must use a new fill plug and new drain plug (same part number). The plugs have an integrated gasket that deforms and can come off with removal (like mine did).

The 6MT transmission has reusable fill and drain plugs however, no gasket or crush washer required.

Also, the 6mt uses a hair more than 1.5L of fluid. Not only was the fluid darker than typical spent oil (as another user pointed out that color isn’t a measure of usefulness) the viscosity was significantly broken down. Shifting is now noticeably smoother.

Can you link the part number? I'm going to do a change soon and wanna make sure I'm getting the right oil and parts before doing it.

Diff fluid : 83222357992
Drain and fill plugs (they’re the same so you need 2): 33117525064

Here’s the fluid pump that I used, worked like a charm: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FJ...mob_b_pd_title

Thanks for the part numbers. Any idea how many liters of diff fluid you need to do the change?

Any idea what's the difference between Saf-Xj vs Saf-XJ+FM?

This link here seems to be different from the one you linked:

The diff requires 1 liter. The +FM is for "Friction Modifiers" which is an additive required for some diffs. The F8X does not require the FM variant of diff fluid.
