Plenty of room to roll around underneath.

This is the improvised storage setup I decided on for now. Seems secure enough.

I don’t reccomend storing on the ground. This is how much clearance I have on stock suspension. I hit the tall blocks and hose driving up to it

FWIW, my E46 is lower than my F80 (to include the diff which is the lowest point on the car and the diff goes right over the frames). Regarding the rubber blocks, I don't store the blocks on the rails since they do add extra height (and would hit the car), they are on a separate shelf in my garage. Lastly, I make sure the connection hoses are routed under the rails to keep them from sticking up as well (the hoses are connected to the rails IAW the instructions). TBH, if I had more room in my garage, I would not store them under the car. But since I don't have the extra room elsewhere, storing them under my track car (which does not get driven daily) was a viable alternative that worked well.

I think I may get rid of the rubber blocks and use some 2x4 blocks of wood (or something similar). While functional, I don't like how the BMW jack pads deform the rubber blocks from the kit. I even got some of those special jack pads that fit the BMW jack pads to help better disburse the weight, but was not impressed with how it worked out. The rubber blocks still work though so I would not let that deter anyone from getting the QJ if you are considering it.

Good to know, the QJ instructions aren't really well written explaining how to route the hoses, etc. You still use the BMW jack pads on top of the rubber blocks? Do you find it necessary? It seems that the rubber blocks have enough surface area to cover the BMW jack pad location without the need of the jack pad.

The QJ rubber blocks have a large enough surface area, but what I noticed is that the shape of the BMW pads will deform the rubber blocks when they have the weight of the car on them (which is why you want to make sure the rubber blocks are centered on the BMW pads). The rubber blocks were not as hard as I thought they would be. To help minimize some of that distortion (and help distribute the weight better on the QJ rubber blocks) I bought some BMW jack pads. It did help some (and I plan to continue to use them), but I think I will still probably get some wooden blocks - but again, this is just a personal preference as the rubber blocks that come with it still get the job done.

QuickJack is on sale at Costco for $999.99 (again)!

Ok, we procrastinated on this too much last November and they went off sale. Now they're on sale for $999.99 again, and again my wife brought it to my attention. She said yes again, so now they're on order!

We've got three track events coming up in March and April, which will require brake pad swaps, plus a mid-interval oil change on the M3, so they'll come in handy right away!

Double check to make sure you have all of your pieces. Mine came with the boxes all mangled (see post #44), which is understandable as they're 80+ pounds, and one UPS driver carrying it.

Mine was just missing the handles. Not necessary, but nice to have. QJ customer support had them sent to me when they became available.

Look what showed up today!

I ordered from Costco on Sunday, it was shipped yesterday, and delivery was initially scheduled for Thursday. This morning I got a notification from UPS that everything was going to be delivered between 9:00 am - 1:00 pm today! UPS showed up at 10:00 AM, so less than 24 hours from shipping to delivery. Not too surprising because the QuickJack offices are only 176 miles away. Now to start assembly and setup!

Still on sale at Costco.com for $999.99 with free shipping until 2/28: https://www.costco.com/QuickJack-5%2...100460313.html

Wow. Your boxes are much less haggard than mine were. You'll just need to buy some hydraulic fluid and you'll be good to go.

I recommend quickjacks over ramps. I bought ramps to do routine maintenance on my GTR and after I got quickjacks the ramps have been collecting dust. The 22” lift on the quickjacks is a major plus vs 12” lift on the race ramps.

Having all three, here's my take on the pros and cons of a floor jack and jack stands, ramps, and QuickJack (just got a QuickJack). Feel free to add your own pros/cons:

Floor Jack and Jack Stands:
Pros: Relatively inexpensive and easily available at Harbor Freight, Home Depot, etc.
For swapping street/track tires, or swapping brake pads, only need to jack up one side at a time (be sure to place one of the wheels under the midsection of the car in case the jack lets go). We use this method at the track.
Can jack up only the front and put on jack stands to do oil changes (use wheel chocks at the rear wheels) or jack up the rear and put on jack stands to do cat-back exhaust install (put chocks at the front wheels).
Relatively easy to transport and doesn't take up much room for storage.
Cons: Generally a PITA to get the whole car up on four jack stands. May need small ramps to get clearance.

Ramps (RaceRamps):
Pros: Really easy to position and drive up on to do oil changes (use chocks on rear wheels), or back up on to do cat-back exhaust installs (use chocks on rear wheels). I've used these for both.
Cons: Somewhat expensive, takes up more room to store. Not as portable to transport because of size and bulk, but much lighter. Not able to do wheel swaps or brake work.

QuickJack:
Pros: Easy and fast to get the entire car up in the air with complete access to do oil changes, wheel swaps, brake work, exhaust work, etc. Best overall for doing the most work on a car. If you can store vertically against a wall, takes the least amount of room, smallest footprint.
Cons: Much more expensive, heavy, harder to move, not very portable unless you trailer your car to the track.

So what’s the verdict? I’m guessing quickjack?

Really depends on your needs and budget. If all you do is oil changes, the RaceRamps (or a cheaper alternative) would be fine. But if you need to do wheel/brake work then those won't work. I'll be doing all of my work on the QuickJack from now on.

I actually like this combo as you get the advantage of having an additional garage parking spot via the 4 post lift in addition to getting the car higher off the ground for work/maintenance. But alas, this setup is not in the cards for me, at least not for a good while, so I will just enjoy my QJ for now...

Out of curiosity, for those of you picking up the QJ, are you getting the DC or AC power unit?

Our house has two bedrooms above the garage so there's a support beam that runs right across the width of the garage. In addition, there's a post dividing the two car portion from the one car portion so any type of post lift is out. QuickJack is the best solution for me. YMMV.

You call people noobs because they have a different setup?

Since I plan on using my QuickJack in my garage and doubt I'll be taking it to the track, I opted for the 120V model.

I’m in the same boat as you, both of the kids bedrooms are directly above the garage. Plus the ceiling height in my garage is only 8 ft and the center beam hangs down 12”. Had to wrap my center post in foam to prevent door dings also.

When we build our new house I’m going with 12ft ceilings in the garage so I can have a 2 or 4 post lift.

I opted for the 120v model as well these quickacks are not portable at all lol. I’m sure they’re great if you’re constantly going to the track and racing events.

Actually, they are a lot more portable than you might think especially if you have a truck/trailer (which I have). My trailer is an open trailer that I would eventually like fabricate some mounting brackets for the QJ rails, but for now they go inside my SUV. That said, fitting the rails along with track tires and supplies inside the trunk with the seats folded would definitely be a challenge and small PITA.

Regarding the power unit, I would still recommend the DC unit and then use a battery charger to power the QJ - they are not that expensive. I get at least 6-7 cycles on one charge. And once the car is up in the air, I put it back on the charger anyway. Or you could always use jumper cables from your car battery as well.

You never know when you might want to go portable for that family member, friend or neighbor who needs help ....

In my extensive searching for anything related to QuickJack, I've actually come across quite a few posts where people have ordered the 12V version, even if their primary intended use is in their own garage. Some store the power unit on a small cart with a 12V battery hooked up which they then recharge using a trickle charger, others use a 12V jump starter that recharges through a USB port.

However, that said, the version that Costco sells is the 110V unit and it's already a done deal. If I ever needed it to be truly portable, I could always buy a 12V to 110V power inverter that handles 10-15 amps for less than $30.
