Apple CarPlay - Voice control Waze with Steering Button
Hello all
One of the things I didn't like Waze with CarPlay was that you couldn't use the voice control button on steering wheel to control it. But as I was looking at Shortcuts on iOS12, I figured out a way to do this thru Siri shortcut, so posting for reference. 1. Create Waze shortcut on your iPhone I referenced this reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/c...r_search_waze/ You can use "Search Nearby With Waze" shortcut posted here. (Access this page with iPhone and you can download directly) * You can edit this shortcut if you'd like, to delete the 1st part("Text") and 2nd part("Speak Text"), so that Siri does not ask you for "What are you looking for?" every time 2. Assign Siri shortcut to this Waze shortcut After you download the above shortcut, it should show up in Settings > Siri & Search, under "My Shortcuts". Then, you can add voice command to that shortcut. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209055 I assigned "Waze Search". 3. Connect your phone to iDrive with Apple CarPlay 4. Press and hold the voice command button on steering wheel until Siri comes up 5. Say your command (i.e. "Waze Search") 6. Shortcut runs and say what you want to search 7. Waze searches and returns the results 8. Select and get going Also, you can create Siri shortcuts to navigate home/homw or your favorite spots directly without searching for it like this. (Use Auto Navigate Home in Waze shortcut in the reddit post above) Hope it helps! |
