How does a single midpipe compare to a double midpipe? VRSF has both designs and watching videos of both they sound so similar. Are there any pros/cons comparing the two?
The single is 3.5" and double are both 2.5" but how does that translate to a difference in sound, performance, volume, etc ? Thanks |

I prefer the single midpipe.
Reasons: - exhaust scavenging from 2-into-1 (+HP) - large pipe acts as an expansion space - reduces raspy notes - increases low tones (the sound I like)

Awesome thanks. Wonder if the larger expansion tank shifts the torque curve higher up in the rpm band.

The fatter pipe allows for lower pressure as exhaust exits the downpipes allowing some low-RPM improvement, but I'm sure the fat pipe helps the high-RPMs more, since 2turbos x heavy foot = Lots of exhaust.
Theres a YouTube showing how the AA mid has a significant venturi scavenging effect at the 2-into-1 that helps pull exhaust through the downpipes.

If anything it would be the opposite. The difference will be the sound, this car has the awesome torque curve where you blow your tires off trying to accelerate past a prius at a light.

The single mid-pipe has become popular due to the fact that it lessens the raspy nature of the S55 stock exhaust while also improving the tone and volume. Equal length will be the newest sector and we are starting development already. We should have our equal length system sound clips up soon, follow us on IG for updates @euromotiveperformance

I believe some people have dyno tested single mid-pipe designs and have come to the conclusion 10-20 horsepower on average in terms of gain. From customers we've installed single midpipes on they have reported a butt dyno increase in the mid range and the car wants to rev more freely, part of this could be placebo and the change in tone of the exhaust but there is no denying its one of the best easy mods on the F8x platform.

I have a non-zcp 17 M4 with oem downpipe, vrsf single-pipe midpipe, oem muffler and it's honestly my favorite sounding F8X. I haven't seen any good sound clips of this setup so I'll have to get some recorded but the sound is a mild aggressive deep growl. The stock exhaust had virtually zero burbles being a non-zcp but replacing the midpipe has introduced these very subtle and occasional burbles, no tune on the car. There is still that wicked bark at left off in higher RPMs. Pulling the charcoal filters and dropping in BMC filters amplified the induction noise a good bit.
I didn't like how from a stop the car would sound aggressive through 1st and 2nd but into 3rd the valves would close and silence the car completely. So I bought a BMS canflap to open the valves, I'm literally addicted to the sound. |

Zero gains from midpipes, only change in tone. Only becomes beneficial in high boosted applications (larger turbos).

There was a dyno from Autotalent done on Jason's car there back to back and the 3.5" Active midpipe made 4hp. So about a wash. No dog in the fight, just reporting what it was.
Also you guys do realize the 3.5" single is actually smaller than the factory exhaust correct? 3.5" = 3.14*r^2 = 9.62 sq in area 65mm (stock) = 3.14*r^2 x 2 = 10.29 sq in area So 3.5" single is 6% smaller than the factory exhaust from a flow standpoint.

I currently have the AA single midpipe.
I did not notice any power increase whatsoever. It also didn't eliminate rasp. I have catless DP though, so thats a factor. The car sounds pretty ok until you hit that 3500 rpm rasp and it's obnoxiously loud. |

Not my video. timestamps 9:05 - Sounds just like my setup at startup. Noticeably deeper tone and slightly louder than stock. 10:57 & 11:01 - This is where I hear rasp higher in the revs, with stock muffler I don't get this sound ever, just a really clean deep sound. No pops or burbles but I think that's their tune. 12:46-12:53 - Accurate cruising sound, without a valve controller when your car shifts into third under light acceleration, the valves shut and silent the car. 15:17 - These revs again have a hair of rasp to me. I don't think you get any of this with stock muffler. |
