There is no way in hell im getting a 1st production M4 regardless of how it looks like. I might consider it in 2-3 yrs if I ever get board of my M3 which is very unlikely. So my plan is probably to keep my M3 and add the M4 to the garage. I think most 2012-2013 M3 owners think the same. The problem really is not the M4 it's the love for the LEGENDARY S65 E92 M3 and that that it's really hard to give this LEGENDARY car up.

I've had 3 M's, an E39 M5, an E46, and now an E92. So I consider myself a long term M fan as well. In between, I even went the 997 route for a couple of years that seemed like an eternity. I'm just not a big fan of hypocrisy, is all. Now, that being said, when are you going to sneak into the Nurburgring, record your own sound files, and let us know what the redline within 10 RPM is going to be on these? |

I love the car!!...love it....have never considered owning an e92 M3 (very difficult to stretch the budget) but the M4 is worth it.
Even though the design is a little busy, I think it matches very well the sport intention and the car's width and proportions. Also if it was more subtle, a lot of you, would have said that it looked too much like a regular 4series with M sport. I don't understand why lots of people here are b..ing about the colour, its just for the prototype and even if they do propose the colour, you can always get another one (i'm pretty sure there will be more colours than just one). And enough of unfunded speculation about the engine!!..it's an M and i'm sure the engineers would do something worthy of the brand and better than the competition, be it a 6 cylinder with turbos or any other choice. I've been following for long enough to remember how much people were pissed when M shifted from 6 to 8 cylinders...So calm yourselves, move on with the technology and have faith in M power!!! |

actually there was a statistic someone shared on there the other day, saying that 70% of gt3 owners owned a prior M3 (any generation) and according to this poster this was a porsche statistic...that's waht I was referring to, not all porsches. I would not be surprised as anecdotally I know several that have made the switch to porsches and the GT3 in particular. Think it changes a bit once you get some M car owners into the 40s and 50s in peak earning years (and porsches are skewed to an older demo).

Is it just me, or are there others seeing the shaft of a flap system on this exhaust:

2 things I don't like about the current M3: high-rev engine and low end torque! I really wish M4 is going to be different! Can't wait to see the specs.

I'd guess from the blacked out windows that it doesn't have the finished interior, maybe just a standard set from the 4 series still.
Really looking forward to seeing the interior though, hope its as good as the exterior. |

point being as I said in my initial post is that if you're going to have a "somewhat affordable" german N/A sports car, porsche is the next step and as you've seen here and will see here, a lot of BMW enthusiast customers that love N/A applications will be migrating upwards to P[cars. Not everyone is a fan of FI and I know it was a big decision point for more recent M3 buyers who bought E9xs just for that reason rather than the assumed impatience/locked in a lease thesis.

We're all in the same boat - making some initial opinions with no key performance related information yet available. That obviously goes both for those that are postive and those negative. I could be wrong but most of the negativity thus far seems to be related to known factors such as aesthetics or FI (and in some cases trivial things like the concept color...). I know I am and suspect most are open minded enough to adjust our opinion as more performance related information comes out. This happens with every release especially when the passions run high. As negative as many of my postd are I'm still a big M fan and have plenty of optimism left. Cheers. |
