I considered that as well. I mean, if I tracked the car and would benefit from the carbon brakes on the race track I'd probably keep them. But this is a street car for me, and I was only getting them for their rarity and weight. So to me, if they aren't covered, they are simply not worth the extra expense.

My guess is...CCB sales will dictate warranty coverage at some point, ie if enough boxes don't get checked on new orders, BMW is sure to come back with a inclusive plan and even maybe a price drop. Got to pay for all that early trial stage costs somehow! 8K, sure!

Not sure what you mean by this.
That the ceramic brakes are far safer and will keep you alive? Or are you saying you have a terminal condition, and don't intend to procreate, and want to spend any and all of your money as fast as humanly possible? One can sure hope... |

Agreed! I told my dealer that if BMW doesn't cover them, buyers are going to shy away from them even more than they already are. BMW needs to step up and cover their CCBs just like Chevy does for the ZR1, Z06 and Z/28, and Porsche does for all of their PCCB cars.

There is the catchall sentence at the end that references vehicle specific exclusions in the Service and Warranty Booklet, so without actually reading that I don't think you can say they are covered. I'm would bet they are covered for defect under the vehicle warranty, but wouldn't use the language on the BMW website to assume they're covered under the maintenance program.

These CCB's man... one would love to have them but if they don't provide that much of an improvement outside of track they're one tough pill to swallow.
I'm a bit not surprised the brakes aren't covered cause I read somewhere CCB's are expected to last 98k miles. Ultimate service lasts 4 years/50k Miles right? If technically they don't need maintenance they I guess makes since there's no need to cover them in that sense. On the hand, if somehow the car is a Lemon and the brakes are involved then I expect BMW to do something about it. I would imagine the weight reduction would probably help with fuel economy at least in the long run. However how long would it take for it to have positive returns on that front is another mystery.

Phone call # 3. The Service Manager at my dealer says he's "100% sure they aren't covered", and plans on emailing me the language that states that. I'll post it here for you guys to read once I get it, whatever it says.

Seems like there shouldn't be any maintenance required for the CCBs during the free maintenance period. If there is a problem during that time, that should come under warranty, not maintenance.

Seems like there is quite a bit of conflicting information. Dealers are notorious for being absolutely clueless. Housekeeping: Let's drop all the name-calling and bickering. We are better than that. Kind of.

I'm inferring from the article, correctly or incorrectly, that the pads (not just the rotors) may also not be covered under the maintenance program with the carbon option. My dealer says the article is correct, but I hope to have more definitive info tomorrow. Either way, I don't feel like playing "maintenace-coverage" games with BMW with these things, so I decided to drop them from my order.

It seems like there is a problem in understanding the difference between "covered by warranty" and "covered under maintenance", which appears to be contributing to the confusion.
