Recovering existing tune applied to car

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2018 M3 off of Carvana and had it inspected at a mechanic. Apparently the previous owner installed a catless downpipe and removed the resonator, however the car is not throwing a CEL so it must be flashed with a custom tune.

I don't like the exhaust rasp from the catless downpipe so I'm considering replacing it, which would require a new tune. However I like the burble tune settings the previous owner applied (very minimal but still present) so I'd like to preserve that, somehow. Also not sure how aggressively the car is tuned performance-wise so I would be interested in figuring that out.

Is it possible to inspect what tuning parameters the car is using? I've never used BootMod3 but I'm imagining something like downloading the current parameters applied to the car so I can modify some but keep others. Hopefully that made sense!

To get rid off the rasp you better let these downpipes and the tune for what is is and place some resonators at the end of the exhaust.

Hi,
You can change the downpipes without changing the tune. No need for a remap.

If you wish to change the tune, you will need to buy a new bootmod3 license as you cannot recover a tune purchased by someone else.

You could install a catted or OEM DP and remove the rasp without need to update the tune.

Send an email to support@bootmod3.com along with the VIN, tell them you bought a car with an unknown tune and ask if they see a tune assigned to it. They should answer. If they say yes you can then ask which tune they see as "Last Flash". They might tell you which tune is applied.

I wouldn't pay for a BM3 license just yet.

FYI, the S55 engine has two turbos and two downpipes, just in case you're thinking of replacing them. Does your car still have the original midpipe section or was that replaced? There are aftermarket midpipes (single large-oval style or twin equal-length) that also remove the secondary catalysts, which may help as well.
