Similar to how knowledge sharing on the forums is no charge, Terry@BMS did the base map, along with all tuning adjustments at no charge, with the primary intention of the BEF map serving as a stack supplement to the JB4. However, the few of us who helped evaluate the map to get it to an optimal state required time and money for:

1. Fuel and maintenance for over 50+ log passes (hundreds of log entries collectively)
2. Entry fee for 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile logging
3. Cost of dyno tuning
4. Placing themselves at risk and danger with street logging

So as you can see, there's associated costs to just about everything that the rest of community gets to enjoy for "free" -- just FYI.

No I get that, and the input is appreciated. I was just making a simple joke regarding the you having the file and access to a dyno.

No worries, I get the intended humor. I simply wanted to take the opportunity to remind people that barely anything in life is free. Someone at some point, paid for the cost of most things we consider free.

Appreciate all the effort Terry@BMS and the BMS team has put into our platform with the JB4 and back end flashes. I reached out to Terry the other day with a log and he responded with an updated map to try. Excellent support. The new back end maps just released are definitely more refined and car is butter smooth. Links to the maps and info.

As of the most recent BM3 update, I've received word that only authorized BM3 tuners are allowed to upload raw .bin file formats. Thus, ending the option to self-upload JB4 BEF maps.

Sorry folks! This was a good open source option while it lasted, but business is business.

Too bad, fortunately MHD fully supports the free maps.

Only authorized BM3 tuners are allowed to upload raw .bin files going forward. You'll need to figure out a way to merge the tables from the BEF over to your stock map. You can use TunerPro or EcuFlash to achieve this.

You could always sell the BM3 setup and then use a MHD adapter for flashing, it's $69 and super fast compared to those old cables. Then another $200 for the flash license and you're good to go.

Bm3 responded, its just not customer based anymore, they upload the file for you for BEF and custom tunes are still a thing for daily users to do, but you need be in cohorts with their support.

That is a shit policy. Back in my old Subie days when Cobb AP was just coming into play, there was a TON of base map sharing going on and Cobb never discouraged it. Everyone knows a custom dyno tune is best, but why would they stop users from sharing solid base tunes?

It's clearly a business move, IMO. JB4 is pro MHD, and MHD is one of BM3's top competitor, so stuff like this gets in the crossfire. I'm sure PTF weighed the pros and cons before implementing the upload restriction, in which they likely deemed the interest to be low enough to not really make much of an impact.

The major demographics on the S55 platform are still not advanced enough for these kind of changes to matter. When the 3rd wave of owners come in, that's likely when subtle changes like this will have more relevance.

As always, this is just my two pennies worth.

There's no cost to being a tuner.. BM3 editor and registering as a tuner are free. Being authorized simply means that you're recognized as one with prior tuning experience and not someone just having fun learning things on their own car and playing with the editor.

Anyone needing a BEF bin file uploaded just simply email our support and we'll help out add it. Its really rare anyone uses BEF files on these cars but if you do don't hesitate to just email us

See above, no such policy, that'd be pretty poor indeed
