2 issues with PayPal:

1. Funds are now held until item is received, potential scam for sellers
2. Biden is requiring you to pay taxes on PayPal sales.

So unfortunately it will come down to seller reputation for shipping or cash only next year

I’ve used escrow services to buy airplanes twice. It’s the only way to do large financial transactions with a stranger. Both parties fill out paperwork with bank account wiring info. Buyer funds the account, and only when buyer says “release the funds” *after* seeing that the item(s) are as advertised and free and clear, the escrow agent turns the funds over to seller’s account. Seamless transaction.

That might be a good option for those selling whole cars or big $$$ parts like an engine. Here most parts sales are under $1K, so we use quick-pay methods that have protection built in (like regular PayPal). Even $$ items like wheels are pretty safe bought with PP, because if the seller packs poorly or ships junk then PayPal dings them for return shipping fees (cost them a couple hundred $ headache, even though you have to send back).

I'll tell you, after being scammed by deebeemerman I am really skittish. I am in a purchase right now with M Fueled. I think at first I ticked him off because I was trying to be careful and not be scammed again. He seems to be straight-up, should be receiving the wheels tomorrow.
If scammers worked as hard on a legitimate job who knows what would happen?

I tried to get deebeemerman to do this after I got suspicious but he ignored me. That won't happen again.

Lame question but local pick up in-person transactions should be ok with Venmo or Zelle?

For deals "in person" these pay methods are usually no problem AFTER you've inspected the parts and have them in hand.

If someone sold you a broken part (injector, for example) regular PayPal should still back you up.

Luckily I never had a bad transaction (yet), hopefully never. But friends of mine had it bad on both ends, selling and buying. You may sell a part, where the buyer needs it to replace theirs, then dispute it with PayPal saying you sent the broken part (their original broken part), then request refund.

Always good to consider local sales/in person.

Seller should always send pix so they have proof of what sold. That should help prevent garbage like above.
