Track pad swap only up front?
Had my first HPDE this past weekend in the M3 at Road America (full course). Three days on track (beginner group) and I'm really impressed with the car and it's braking performance. I was running stock pads with motul 600. Thinking of going to Gingerman next month and it's probably a good idea for me the get some dedicated track pads (noticing pretty bad pad deposit the drive home).
I've been told by multiple people, including my instructor, that Pagid's are the way to go. Would I be able to get away by swapping just the front pads with RSL29? Planning on just one more track day for the year.

Who are these experienced people recommending Pagids?! My gawd.
Sure you can get away with running a staggered compound front to rear, but idk if I'd recommend going "pesudo race pad" + stockers. The fronts already take a lot of abuse and running that setup will likely just increase the system fatigue. Ferrod, Hawk, Carbotech. |

I highly suggest you DO NOT run a staggered pad setup until you have a great deal of experience with your car as its a great way to have the back end come around on you.
In the past I have run with Ferodo DSC2500's and they are great until you cook them into break crumble. I run Hawk DTC-60's front and rear and get pretty great performance out of them and after talking with quite a few of the local guys I run with at BIR and RA I would consider the PFC08's but the pagids are terrible. They tend to leave metallic deposits on the rotors and plug up the drilled vents. I also exclusively run Castrol SRF due to the extreme heat that the F80 M3 makes with its breaks. Motul just doesn't hold up to the abuse over multiple days. Last edited by Torfhinn; 09-12-2019 at 05:09 PM.. Reason: additional information |

My vote goes to Endless. I've gone through a few sets of Pagids and although they were okay they are nowhere near as good as Endless. Initital bite is much better and zero fade when pushed hard.

Appreciate the input. I have a tendency to trail brake and the more that I think about it, upsetting the brake balance might not be the best at my experience level as suggested. Will be swapping out both front and rear.
Now the decision is between which pad to run. Hearing a lot of great things about Ferodo and ECS has a sale right now on Hawk pads (DTC-60). |
