I also think that the fact that this thread literally has 40-50x the amount of posts and views vs any other Vs. car/topic speaks for itself in the interest and validity of the 3 Performance as a real contender. That is not to say I still won’t always love my M’s!

A coupe version of the Model 3P might get my attention, but looks are important to me and the sedan M3P doesn’t have them.

I don’t think many (any?) 4 seats / 2dr cars look great either. 2 seats/2 doors have the best look

If it’s a sedan based 2 door it’s compromised from the start so might as well get a sedan or wagon at that point (in my opinion)

Yeah the looks. I totally respect the car, but man from the front, it may as well be a VW Beetle. I hope a refresh is in the works.

I think the Model 3 looks great. I own both the M3 and the performance Model 3. They both have their advantages.

Maybe I’m being unfair. I like most angles, but the front from a high vantage point just looks goofy to me. Per a million threads, looks are very subjective.

I have seen four Model 3 around me and one Model S. I always thought Model 3 looked goofy while the Model S looked awesome.

It's subjective, but there are plenty of four doors that look great. The model 3 just doesn't happen to be one of them.

Subjective for sure.

Had mine at a car show/cruise night this week and had lots of interest and compliments.

And then there's this:

(It's just one man's opinion, though he IS a designer by profession...)

Which ones will you cite? F80, c63s, alfa Qv?

Definitely subjective. I don’t like or dislike my model 3 looks any differently than my old f80 and all these 3 box sedans pale (in my mind) when next to 2+2 and straight up 2 seater

I think the model 3 is probably one of the most butt ugly cars I’ve seen. At least the model S looked sporty and the planned 2022 design for the model S looks cool. The fact he is a designer is irrelevant. There are lots of ugly cars designed - even by BMW, Porsche and Mercedes. The reviewer said it looks Scandinavian in design. Saab’s and Volvo’s are Scandinavian design and the older ones were also butt ugly.

Nice. Seems like there's value in that Tesla, with the gas savings.

I've had mine since last September, don't miss my BMW M3 much at all. This AWD instant torque is intoxicating!

Sure those models you cited are 4 door sedans that I think look good, and are generally regarded as looking good. Maybe the Alfa grill is a bit polarizing, but from most other angles the Giulia looks good.

The model 3 on the other hand seems to be a highly polarizing design. To me, as a whole, it looks sort of like a Pontiac Aztec, or perhaps a crossover, like a rav4, and a Porsche Panamera had a fling, and the model 3 is their love-child. Except, the poor little model 3 inherited the worst looks from both parents, even as it also inherited performance chops from the Panamera, and spacious utility from the rav4. In the end we get a talented individual that's, tragically, difficult to look at.

Now consider that, presumably by random mutation, the model 3 also acquired the quirky EV technology that doesn't yet fit well into everyone's current lifestyle or local infrastructure, and it shouldn't be a stretch to understand why it's not unanimously loved and sought after.

Lol. That’s awesome.

I was planning to put a rudolf red nose and reindeer ears on my car for Xmas.

If I can find some non permanent side cladding, ala Aztec, that would be a great Halloween costume for the car

Polarizing?
I could get along with boring, or Porsche-clone, but polarizing? Really?

Dude, you really have a thing against Porsche and Tesla designs.
That's pretty rare, so do enjoy your unique condition!

By polarizing design, I mean that it seems to elicit either love or hate.

I don't dislike Porsche designs at all. I meant to impart the image of a Porsche Panamera that's been compressed front to back, and has a rounder, slightly higher silhouette. I don't find that look appealing.

That Tesla borrowed a bit from Porsche design cues (especially the front end, imo) doesn't mean that I dislike that design language, it means that I don't like it in the context of the model-3 as a whole. In fact, I think the tesla model-s looks great. It looks a lot like a panamera at first glance.

I should say too that, in the post you're referencing, my description was meant to be somewhat of a caricature. I wasn't being completely serious.

I too have a bit of a preference for the model s roof slope compared to model 3. A key trade off is the rear seat in model s is a bit brutal (high floor, low seat bottom, low roof) and model 3 has a relatively normal rear seat

I was hoping model Y suv would have a traditional stand up box shape and not the “coupe suv” shape

Even though I can never get enough 3.2 second runs to 60mph, it was refreshing to see the reaction from this enthusiast I met, who'd never driven one. I took him for a ride, should have recorded that response, here's what happened shortly after he took off:

After two F80's, Hellcat, GT350, TTRS among a few others. I am moving to a Model 3 Performance.

Picking up my white on white M3P this Saturday. With the strong regen braking, instant acceleration, low center of gravity and tight handling. One of the best car's I've driven on the street and I am excited to experience daily. Yes, there is no sound but it more than makes up for it in overall performance.

After I raced my TTRS vs this Model 3 Performance... my decision was made. I have never really lost to anything on the street in 2 years. This thing not only took me from a dig, but decimated me from a roll. This was with him being the heavier driver by 100+ pounds and having heavy, super wide wheels/rubber.
