How often do you change your oil?

Hi guys,

So I just got my 2015 YMB about a month ago at 28K miles. I've put about 5k mileage on the car already and I was wondering how often do you guys change your oil? Does the car let you know when a change is due? or do you guys change every 5k?

I'm curious just cause I do want to maintain my car considering how much mileage I put on the car.

Yes the car will let you know when oil service is required (approx every 10k miles) but I change mine every 5k miles.

Car will let you know. First oil change is @ 10k miles after break in service I believe.

Surprisingly the intervals on my M4CS are twice as long as the intervals on my 440. Car notified me to change oil every 5k~ miles.

Do people follow the date or mileage if the car is not a daily driver? I've always been of the mindset that the oil is provably fine if it's surpassed the date but mileage is well under 5k or less.

Probably fine but for very low mileage situations I would just change once a year if only for peace of mind.

every 9-10K (approx every 2.5 months). I'm at 32,000 miles in my 2019 and I have had a total of 4 oil changes (1 being the first 1,200 mile change).

Same. I've always changed the oil at half the recommended intervals on all my BMWs. Oil is relatively cheap.

I have always done 7-8k miles, which is usually ~12-16 months depending on which of 2 cars I am favoring. I will do the same with the M3.

Why would you do that? The filter is super easy to change and inexpensive. Oil and filter always together.

+1 change both at the same time.

If anything, given the filter is so cheap, I have sometimes changed just the filter at 4K or half way through an ~8K oil change interval on other cars. I might continue to do the same on the M3

I am a little surprised how tiny the oil filter is on these cars.

Official BMW notification on my car is 12 months or 10k. My car so far is on the 12 month cycle, because I'm only getting about 8k per year. The car gave me a notification on the 1st day of the 12th month of the previous service. I do a change myself in between and always use a genuine filter. Once my warranty is up I will use Mann filters because they look exactly the same and are less expensive.

Every 100 miles, can’t be too safe about oil condition etc. Even though it is rarely the cause of an engine break down.

I love oil threads.

Every 5k miles. If you run longer intervals I strongly reccomend doing UOA's to verify protection. The OE 0w-30 breaks down to a 20wt in just 4k miles.
