BMWs have so many plastic parts that lack of rattle is the exception.
Thankfully I'm pretty much that exception.

Second on that. Just lube it up and it'll go away for a little while. It's the rubber seal on the inside of the doors that makes contact with the metal on the body inside the door jamb.

That's not actually what is happening, the door hinges don't have that kind of play to move that much otherwise you'd never be able to open the door when you jack a corner up lol

It's the felt on top of door edge rubbing against the gloss black trim. Apply a slick wax to gloss black trim incl underside and problem solved

So is it the shadow line, the rubber seal, or the felt?

None of the lubes, waxes, or other potions will last. If you're washing your car properly and wiping down your door jambs when drying, you'll wipe it right off.

If your car is still under warranty, take it to the dealer and have them apply teflon tape, free of charge. My dealer said that they've been doing this since the F30 was released, they've done dozens of cars. This is the BMW-recommended fix. They did my wife's 2018 M3 and she hasn't heard a creak since.

I use swissvax shield, which is a Teflon infused wax

You want a wax here, not a coating or sealant as typically a wax is slicker

I apply it every 6 months, much cleaner solution than having to look at that tape every time you open the door, or worse have the edge of tape visible with doors closed

I have a rattle from the wireless charging tray when hitting bumps or driving on crappy roads. The noise stops if I hold it with my hand or keep the tray loaded with a phone. It's been a few months and I'm still waiting for a replacement part from the dealer. Interestingly, it doesn't bother me as much now after I identified where the noise comes from.

Zero rattles, creaks, etc. May 15 build, 45k on shitty pavement. That said the door jambs do squeak a bit if you don't keep them clean. Wipe down a few times a month does the trick.

The service manager at my dealership told me last week there is a recall on the creaky/noisy window seals. Apparently they apply some sort of material (tape?) to quiet them down. Will have it done soon as mine is pretty creaky when the weather is warm.

As others have said here, it's likely the door seals. Specifically, it's not the rubber seal, per se. Rather, it's the felt piece that rubs against the piano-black shadowline trim. You can fix it by applying anti-squeak tape to the black trim, or for an easier fix, spray this on the felt:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had the same issue on my 340i with shadowline trim, but I only recently searched Google for the fix. I was skeptical about the spray, but it WORKS.

Can anyone please post up a PIC of what they are talking about with the contact points? Where is the annoying squeaking coming from?

Here it is: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=51

The grease will take care of it. But like others said, if you wash that area, you'll have to reapply. (But I really don't see a strong need to wash those black shadowlines.)

For those of you whose M3 is still under warranty and who insist on using wax, grease, spray, or some other solution, please explain to me why you would rather do this, apparently on a regular basis, rather than just take your car in to your dealer and have them apply the BMW-recommended fix, which is teflon tape, and is the best relatively permanent solution?

It's a free solution, only takes a couple hours of your time, and will permanently eliminate the creaking. Help me understand why you wouldn't just do this.

OK. I'll bite.

Reason 1: I'm glad Teflon worked on your car, but I am not sure the Teflon is a universal solution.

Reason 2: I found the grease solution before the BMW fix. It worked well for me (as long as I don't degrease the shadowline areas). So why would I spend another 2 hours going to the dealership?

Reason 3: There is something about a man being able to fix problems by himself. Or that could be just me.

Or
1. I have trust issues..
2. I know better than the experts.
3. I have inadequacy issues.

It's my wife's M3, and she works long hours, so I have limited access to her car. It's a clear Teflon tape, so I'm not sure how well it will photograph. It's actually not that easy to see, but you can feel the edges.

Imagine a thin, clear piece of tape, around 3/8" wide, that is adhered underneath the shadowline trim, starting at the front cowl, arcing over the top of the door jamb, and extending back to the trunkline.

I'll try and take pictures this weekend, if I remember.
