Money2536's Mineral White F80 M3 Journal
Since I'm getting closer to delivery, I decided to start my F80 M3 Journal modeling others that have done something similar and replicating my 911 C2S Journals. Here are the links to my two 991 911 Carrera S Journals: Rennlist http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...s-journal.html 6SpeedOnline http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...s-journal.html I live in The Villages, FL, which is about an hour North West of Orlando. It's a massive retirement community, so as you might imagine it's densly populated with Buicks, Lincolns, and (for some reason) Mini-Vans. Since there are virtually no other nice cars around, my 911 Journal has been an enjoyable outlet to share my obsession that is cars. The journal route seems to be a better way to chronical my ridiculous ideas, modifications, etc. rather than make a hundred new posts everytime I clean the wheel wells. So here's the sob story. I grew up just outside of Pittsburgh, PA in a single-wide trailer to two very young, extremely hard-working parents. They sold that place in '93 for $9,000. My wheels and tires cost more than that on my E92 M3! I was very fortunate to get aid/loans/support from parents/scholarship and devine intervention to be able to attend and graduate from Villanova with a BSEE. As you'll see in the 911 Journals or from future posts here, my DNA is very much "Engineer." In other words, be ready for some detail. As many of you cars guys/girls know, it is very hard to resist the urge to live life on a monthly payment. I've tried to take the natural progression of automobile upgrades and not just jump to the best. I started out as a Honda guy, working my way up through the ranks from the Civic Si with steps toward the S2000. I finally got and E92 M3 when I turned 30 and have worked my way to my ultimate dream of the perfection (for me) that is the 911. I'll do a post later with photos of my past rides for those that care. After what I classify as defying the odds and working rather hard, here I am today. I'm living the dream I always had. God, family, and the two childhood crush cars, the M3 & 911! Both will be in my garage at the same time! Which will I choose to drive each day when I head into my office? Only fate will decide! Alright, enough gushing. Here is the car. I placed my order on March 21st with BMW of Ocala. 2015 M3 Sedan: $62,000 Mineral White Metallic: $550 Sakhir Orange/Black Extended Merino Leather: $950 Lighting Package: $1,900 19" Black Light-Alloy Wheel Double-SpokeStyle 437M: $1,200 Adaptive M Suspension: $1,000 M Carbon Ceramic Brakes: $8,150 Manual Transmission: $0 Harman Kardon Surround Sound System: $875 Destination & Handling: $925 Total MSRP as Built: $77,550 I received $2,000 off MSRP: $75,550 My methodology behind the car build has changed quite a few times during the ordering/waiting process. I actually started out with a more basic car. I intended to lease the car due to having never driven it and it being a first year of a new model. Shortly after the reviews started coming out, I decided to go against my better judgement, buy the car, and order it the way I actually wanted. In the end, I added the Lighting Package, CCBs, and Adaptive Suspension. My thoughts/opinions on options: -My 911 is already very similar to Alpine White, so I opted for Mineral to "change" it up a bit. -I didn't get full leather for several reasons. The main reason is that I got it in my 911, and it's not something that wows me when I get in the car. Leather just doesn't get me that excited. My S4 doesn't have full leather, and I would classify it's interior as the best I've ever owned. -I have chickened out on getting a white car many times in the past. The same for the interior. I always end up getting black. This time I pulled the trigger on Sakhir. Now I have two white cars. At least one will have a cool looking interior color. I hope I don't regret it. - Driver Assistance Plus/Executive Packages. I live in a rather rural area, don't parallell park, hate headlight washers, can't live with the terrible sound of satallite radio, live in FL no heated steering wheel, etc. Luckily that saves me tons of cash. -LED lights. I don't care as much about the head lights as I do the angel eyes. They look so much better than the standard, so I got the package. -Black Wheels. I'll probably go aftermarket, but I needed 19" for the CCBs. -Manual Transmission. I have DSG on my S4 and couldn't be more bored, so no paddles for me. Hopefully this manual is as good as they say it is, but I'm certain it won't touch the 911 or S2000. I just hope it's okay enough. It can't be much worse than the E92, so I'm not worried. -M CCB. Very little dust, lighter weight, looks awesome, so I decided to waste my money. -Convenience Options: Not my bag. I'm a man of simplicity and performance. These convience options don't add anything to the car for me. Shoot, I wish I could opt out of Nav. -HK. I added it. I'm sure I'm going to hate it. I'm planning on adding DynAudio drivers/Audison amp later on. We'll see. For $875, I figured it can't hurt anything other than my ears. -Cameras. No thanks. So, I'm super excited to get back into an M3 after trading my beloved E92 in for my 911. Stay tuned for more obnoxious posts. I hope my insanity might help others in their conquest. By the way, my name is Matt. I'm glad to become a part of the M community again. Last edited by Money2536; 01-10-2016 at 06:33 AM.. |

I like your story. Similar to mine, but you came from less and have achieved more, but I'm still a little younger. Good to see that you've done so well. I love stories like that! #motivation

Good for you, man. Having grown up in a trailer park to a single mom making peanuts and driving a dodge omni, I can relate. Full up latch key kid made of boiled hot dogs and fish sticks. I paid for college by bagging groceries and dragging brush for a tree service and now at 39 my I own three houses and 3 cars and I have my dream car on order. Needless to say I don't buy the "lack of opportunity" argument in this country.

M School and Performance Center Delivery
So I ordered my car in March and then made changes to my order in late May, I assumed my build date would be pushed back. From the beginning, I absolutely wanted to do another Performance Center Delivery. I received a Week 27 build which is the worst possible time. I either needed a few weeks earlier or a few weeks later. My wife is due with our second child on August 20th, so the car is going to show up at exactly the wrong time.
Last week my SA sent me an email that my PCD is set for 8/14. That's 6 days before the baby, so there is no way I'm going to able to go. The email from PCD states you can push it back 10 working days. Well that only moves to 8/27, so that doesn't help. I ask my SA to try and get me an exception to push it back to the first week in September. I must be the only idiot in the world that wants to push back his delivery! All of this was on a Friday. I spent the weekend thinking about it and decided I would be okay not doing PCD as I'd get the car about a month earlier. Last Monday I got the best news. I can schedule anytime from 8/14 to 9/12!!!! So I jump on BMWs site to get an idea what days PCD will have open around driving schools and events. Then I started thinking, "Why not see if there is a 1 Day M Driving School at the same time?" Wouldn't you know it? September 8th there is a 1 Day M School. Perfect! So I click on it. It's SOLD OUT! Crap! So I call the school and ask if they can squeeze me in. "Nope!" Then I ask my SA to ask for me. "No can do!" They don't accept extra students, but they would add me to the waiting list. Then I get a call at around 5PM the same day. "We made an exception, you are in!" Now I didn't like taking my own car to the track, but I really enjoyed PCD in 2011. I'm going to love extending my trip and doing both M Driving School and PCD. The even better news is that direct flights from Orlando to Greenville/Spartanburg are only on Sunday, so I have a direct flight! I'm not much of a traveler, but I am planning an EPIC delivery trip (for my standards). ED is too much flight time for me. If I have the choice, I much prefer to stay home and play in my garage, but this is different. So here is the plan: 1.) Sunday, September 7th: -I’m taking a direct flight from Orlando to Greenville/Spartanburg, SC on Sunday. I'm staying at the Greenville Marriott where BMW puts delivery recipients. Don't worry, I'm flying my Mom to my house to help with the new baby. 2.) Monday, September 8th: -1 Day BMW M School on Monday! I am flying my Dad in from PA on Monday to meet me at the hotel after my day at the M School. Sorry Dad, I couldn’t get you in. It was full, and I got lucky that they made an exception for me. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...S.aspx#mschool -I made sure to become a BMWCCA member again to save 15%. It cost me about $1250 for the day without flight and hotel. 3.) Tuesday, September 9th: -It’s Delivery Day. I do the standard, instructor led braking, testing, tracking of a car similar to mine. We tour the factory and museum. Delivery of my car happens at some point throughout the day. -After delivery, we are headed to the Highlands, NC. I’m staying at the super fancy Old Edwards Inn. I figure, go big or go home! There really aren’t very many nice hotels that I know of in the mountains, and I really want to hit the Highlands Hwy (28). I’ll take various roads on the way, back-tracking a bit to catch 28. https://www.oldedwardsinn.com/ -I was going to take a more northerly route and do part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and stay near Balsam/Cherokee, but I couldn’t find an acceptable hotel. Sorry, I’m a hotel snob. 4.) Wednesday, September 10th: -We’ll get up early to make a loop through the mountains. The plan is to hit Moonshiner’s 28 route from Old Edwards Inn through Franklin and past Fontana Lake to the Tail of the Dragon. http://www.moonshiner28.com/ -Next we will hit the Dragon and take 72 back toward the Cherohala Skyway. We’ll have lunch at Tellico Kats on the Skyway. Then take the rest of the Skyway back to 19/129 and head South. We’ll veer off 19 to hit Hwy 60 and do part of Six Gap on our way to Chateau Elan south of Gainesville, GA. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ -We’ll finish the day at the Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA. My guess is that we’ll get there around 6 PM after stops, gas, lunch, etc. It’s dinner and rest for the night. http://www.chateauelan.com/ -I'm a little concerned this may be too much driving on 35-50 mph roads. We may skip the Cherohala and come down Hwy 68 on our way to the hotel if it gets to be too much. I want to take my time and not rush to get too much in. 5.) Thursday, September 11th: We’ll get up at a reasonable hour and decide whether we are taking back roads to my home in The Villages, FL. If we are over the newness of the car and ready to hit Interstate, we will take 75 to get back home. My preference is going to be to drive a more scenic route and avoid highways. I don’t think there are any really exciting roads back to Central FL. I'll spend some more time figuring it out soon. https://goo.gl/maps/Lwz2E I'm certainly interested in feedback on my plan. Hey I just realized we might be taking delivery in South Carolina around the same time. I can't get PCD since mine is a military sales purchase, but I'm having it delivered to SC since one of my aforementioned houses is there and it saves me tax money. I'd kill to do tail of the dragon. Mind if I keep an eye on your progress and try to meet up for that if the timing works out?

Every other generation the M3 came without a leather dash, so I think we'll be fine without it. That being said, I certainly understand the appeal. I had a hard time deciding against it.

But the F8x has a lot cheaper plastic than before. I think the rest of the car will make up for it though! |
