What does "silencer" mean? Will my exhaust be quieter?

Kind of what I'm thinking. From the looks of it, it looks like it's almost "valvetronic?" But, something is telling me I'm way off.

And this is why I ask because it makes no sense whatsoever that you would want to make that exhaust quieter.

IMO silencer is only a term for a device that will reduce the sound of exhaust. This doesn't mean its quieter then OEM. Its term is only indicating it quiets the exhaust system.

Example (db's are made up for example's sake)
Stock exhaust 80db
Strait pipes no cats or mufflers 100db

* this "silencer" could be at 99db - yes it reduces db by 1 but as you can see much louder than it would be OEM.

You see this term a lot with ATV's and 2 stroke engines.

Silencer is the direct translation from German for muffler.

Were the M Performance exhausts for the E9x M3 and F10 M5 basically Akra exhausts rebadged as M Performance, but the new one for the F80/82 is not?

It looks to be similar in design and material, but it is indeed a unique system, developed independently of Akra?

Do I got this correct? Sorry the original post kind of confused me.

I like the sound of this exhaust the best. The price is not too bad relative to the other aftermarket exhausts so far. I used to have the mpe on my e92 m3 and really loved the sound. I will likely get this one as well. The only thing that bothers me is having to cut pipes to do the install.

Meanie, how were you able to order the exhaust so early? The reason I ask is because I need to replace my exhaust anyway (I have the rattle issue) and want to see if I can have the dealer order this one for me instead, possibly at a discounted price.

agreed

stainless steel piping isn't that expensive.. the only component that raises the cost on this system is the titanium portion.. but even then if you paid +5k for a non-full, semi-titanium exhaust, then you are officially a chump

unless this thing sounds like a Ferrari or GT3 after installation then no thanks

E9x MPE was completely different from Akra. It was also made using inconel and not titanium like the Akrapovic systems.

Well the thing is, Turbo car create more power with free flow, thats why drag cars run straight pipes and sometimes just the down pipe. I doubt these exhaust will increase horsepower at all.

i find it funny that there is an m-performance part that doesnt come standard on the m car. i thought m-performance was for non-m cars. you would think this would just be the exhaust the m car gets. bmw will really do anything to keep raking in money. Bavarian Marketing does Work.

Right??

I also don't think it will be $4600, it will probably be offered in the $3k range in the US. Conversion prices never correlate properly. I mean the price of an M3/4 in the US is even cheaper than in Germany.

$5K for plumbing is simply insane.

My apologies, as I didn't want to highjack this thread... but do your knowledge, does such a listing exists for the E9X generation?

If you look up the part number on ECSTuning and Turnermotorsports it is actually more, $4,700-$4,750. So that seems to be how much it cost.

Tips on Turners site are (set of 4), $919 for titanium and $1,216 for Carbon.

This. And marketing/more revenue.

This is the only area where MB owns BMW. I'm curious to see what the new TT C63 V8 sounds like. If they can make a great exhaust with a turbo car BMW will have to step it up. No more average sounding cars for 70k.

Don't get me wrong I'm still planning on buying one as it's a great car, just some honesty.
