666m wheels question
Hey all,
I'm taking deliver of my first BMW and long time dream car next week! One owner F80 ZCP, 20k miles Silverstone Metallic I have a question about the ride quality and 666M wheels. The last 'performance" car I had was a WRX with low profile tires, 30 sidewall. Being in Michigan, our roads are terrible and because of that, the ride quality was bad. I know the M3 suspension is far superior to the WRX in all ways, but ride quality is definitely impacted by tire profile. How are the 666M wheels with the stock tires on rougher roads? Has anyone put some higher profile tires, within reason, on them and it's improved the ride? Thanks! |

They will ride rough, even in comfort. I swapped out to PS4S and they were more tolerable. Don't overinflated your tires. I keep mine at 31. 32 is recommended. I had it at 34 once and it was unbearable.. This is in nyc.

I sold my 666m rims off my 2019 M4 comp and are driving on 18” Titan 7 rims.
Low profile tires feel sporty and ride rough. They also get messed up real easy when you hit a pot hole. I love the feel of 18” track oriented tires on the street.

The 666Ms are great wheels. I drive in Chicago where the roads are terrible and have gone over numerous pot holes without any bends *knock on wood.* I was worried about having 20s but I think being forged actually helps a lot. Agree with above about tires...they make the difference. For what it's worth, I think the tire/suspension combo on the F80 is smoother than the E90 m3.

Weight is a big factor for comfort. A heavy 19" wheel is not better for comfort than a light 20" wheel. Unsprung weight is killing comfort, and a lot of other performance related factors. I prefer a light 20" wheel with 30 profile tires than a heavier 19" wheel with 35 profile tires, but we all like different.

Hi there,
Congrats on getting your dream ride. I had to go to the garage to double check if my car's still there as I'm the original owner of a silverstone f80 with 20k miles. I mean my wife is not that crazy, but she knows the car comes first, so I thought she might've pulled a fast one on me and sold it. Anyway, the reason that I'm chiming in, besides congratulating you, is that I believe the arc-8 wheels in 18 might not clear your brakes. The ec-7 and other apex wheels do, but I would double check before buying the arc-8. Congrats again and enjoy! PS: I loved my 666 and had no problem with ride quality, but sold them because they were a huge pain to clean and to get my dream wheels

No issue with ride comfort for me and I was definitely worried as you are, OP. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely agree with going with Michelin 4s though. It’s worth the extra $$$s!

Heya!
I have an f80 civic, Dad has an f82 Comp. I have stock 437m, he has the 666m. I have driven my Dad's M4 extensively, and we have the exact same tire set up (MP4S). I do not fond the 20's to be that much worse than the 19's on the exact same crappy roads. I mean, you can def tell the difference, but with the 4S tires, the ride is not that bad on the 20's. Its only on *really* bad roads with large or ruined expansion gaps that I can tell the difference. In S+ is where I notice it the most (duh right?). The biggest complaint my Dad has about the wheels is as others have stated, is cleaning them. In combo with the stock pads horrid brake dust, these wheels are very very hard to keep clean. Again, doable with the proper tools and chemicals, but still a PITA to keep them clean for MY personal level of comfort. I tease my Dad all the time how much easier my 437m's are to clean... (The 437m is *the* easiest wheels I have ever owned to clean). I hope to get some Apex wheels myself down the road. They are an exellent deal for what they are. Strong and affordable. Congrats on the dream car! josh |

thanks I absolutely love the car!
Just picked up a 437 winter setup, so I can definitely agree about the ease of cleaning them. I did sell the 666 setup because I love the ARC-8s. I was also just a little nervous about the wheels and their lower profile tires on our awful Michigan roads. Apex states that they changed the barrel to clear the stock brakes. Ended up going 18x10 for a solid square setup. Come spring I will be following the guidance and getting some 4s tires. |
