My car was being flashed to 58.3 (my car is a 4/2015 production, never been updated) at the dealership overnight. Should be picking her up today, however I won't be posting any initial reviews for a few days. I've been in a rental for the past 2 days and the first ride home in the M after a service and a rental usually has anyone thinking "WOW". I don't want to judge the merits of the new revision until that sensation is over and done with.
I'll most likely give it a few days. All that said, i'm approaching this from a very critical standpoint. I was very happy with the the drivability of the car pre-update. Happy with the behavior of the DCT, knew there was some "jerky" behavior in Sport +, but learned to modulate the throttle, had coded Euro MDM, so all in all I really had no issues (other than a few minor software bugs). But the consensus seems to be that there is "improvement", so i'm all about testing that out. But i'm really going into it with the perspective that the new software revision is going to have to "win me over" over what I already liked about the car, and I have my doubts. So we'll see!

Not sure why updates are not available by USB sticks or WIFI, as viable alternatives?

Dealer can't do it, as their programming tools will look for newer versions of the software. DIY yourself with Esys, maybe you can rollback an ECU, but to rollback an entire I-step is most likely risky if it's feasible at all!

I would not suggest that if one is not fully aware of what these coding are and what's involved. Bricking a car does not sound too good to me.

Just heard back. Unfortunately he didn't check prior to updating but here is what I know......MY2016 M3, produced 10/2015. That is 2 months after mine was built in 08/2015. My version is F020-15-07-504.

I was not suggesting anything, I was stating a fact that you can change flash/program/update (BTW this is not coding) an ECU to a previous sw version. And yes, if a person isnt familiar with flashing and its associated risks, they would most likely do nothing and ignore my comment

I dropped my F82 off this morning at 9 am, by 2 pm the update was complete. Upon picking up the car I immediately noticed an improvement in the exhaust sound. It seems that ASD volume is decreased as well. I have Akra DP's and full Akra exhaust. In sport plus, is where I notice the biggest difference in ASD volume. I did not drive enough to be able to accurately comment on changes to DCT, DSC, or MDM operation. The improvement in the HUD alone was worth the trouble. My car went from 14-11-502 to 16-03-504.

Hello All,
I want to get this upgrade so I dropped my MY16 M3 at the dealer this week and told them I had issues with iDrive, hill rolling assist sometimes not letting go, and rough DCT 1st gear. They kept the car overnight and said they weren't able to reproduce any of those issues and basically didn't do anything. Is there a surefire reason/excuse that I can use in order to get the dealer to upgrade my software for free under warranty? Thanks in advance. -Colin |

No, they will try to figure out what is wrong and do the documented fix as per the SOP, if they can't recreate the problem most will find no fault and won't fix a problem they can't document. You could always ask how much it is to get the software program updated. It cost me 122USD for 1.2hrs of labor, results will vary lol. Could also try a different dealership.... Good luck |

@aboulfad thanks for the ISTA/P and software version check info.
Looks like mine is 12 version behind. Will get it update soon. Did anyone figure out if Ludicrous Mode is enabled in the update. Curious if BMW will enable on/off setting for Active Sound in future update. |
