Yes you can. The issue a lot of us have is we don't have battery power supplys to insure adequate voltage when flashing. But it seems like everyone from the m3cutters post didn't have one when getting it flashed by the one "Adam" dude. Flash at your own risk.
It seems it's a general trend that some owners are willing to take that risk, even if small, of bricking an $$$ ECU... but it's possible that the guys that charge for it may know something we don't... And hence why they say it's safe and I bet they give a written warranty. And for those that want to DIY, be ready for many unpredictable things that can happen. A fellow had his car in transport mode while doing it... This is not coding "easy entry" or ASD off! Better know the risks ahead then blindly diving in

If you have to flash KOMBI then isn't one of the prerequisite the head unit? I thought the head unit takes a longtime to finish. How would he be able to without a charger?

OT: You can flash Kombi by itself, Google "flashing Kombi" and you'll land in the right thread.

The car should update itself over wifi while its parked in our garage overnight. Having to haggle with dealerships for an update is a joke.

The OTA nav updates only just started with the latest iDrive generation (2016 model year for M3/4).

Got my car back today and just got back from a decent drive and wanted to give my thoughts on the various changes and differences.

I'll start with the most important for me and my main reason for having it done...

Traction/Stability control... Much improved. The intervention (especially for traction control comes in later and when it does it is more progressive and not abrupt. Please keep in mind though that I did all my testing in MDM mode as I only use full on mode when it's raining out.

In S3 mode, I was actually able to chirp the tires a little from 1st to 2nd without the system kicking in and to my surprise no abrupt buzz kill. I was also able to take a 90 degree corner from a rolling stop much faster and without as much intervention and was able to still get a little slip angle. When the system did kick in it was mild and recovered quicker than before.

Overall, very much improved. I no longer feel the need to get Euro code MDM coding. It now feels like both systems are working to help you and not be a buzz kill.

Exhaust note / burble overrun... Sorry guys, but I just don't hear anything different. Maybe an extra pop here or there, but nothing consistent and no noticeable change to tone or loudness.

DCT... When I was first driving it home from the dealer, it felt a little dumbed down, but after driving it tonight, it feels just about the same to me now. I was mostly in S3 and D3, so I can't speak for the other modes. Maybe it just had to readapt to driving style.

Adaptive suspension... If any of you have read my previous posts on the M suspension, you know I am not a fan of its rebound damping at all and over all am quite disappointed with the damping tuning for an M car. Maybe it is placebo effect from being in an X6 loaner for a week, but it feels a little more buttoned down now and a little more controlled. Still not enough for me to not go with coil-overs, but my SOP feel says it's a little better.

Herky / Jerky 1st gear in Sport+ throttle... You can still induce the herky jerky motions (like one would feel if letting a clutch out to fast and not giving it enough gas) however it takes more for it to be induced and is overall more smooth in 1st gear.

iDrive... It feels more fluid and faster, not much else to report there.

There might be other changes, but that's all I have noticed so far. My dealer said it took about 5 hours for the whole process, as they updated all the modules to the most current.

You can't just go into a dealer and ask for an update, you have to have a reason that they will authorize, but if you can do it, DO IT!!!!
Ok, I took your advice and called the dealer and complained about the overly aggressive traction ... blah blah... and they scheduled me for a visit next week let's see how it goes!!!

After driving it for a few days now, I can confidently say that they did improve the rebound on the adaptive suspension.

While still not as good as the magnetic dampers I had on the Audi TTRS, it does feel quite a bit more controlled with less vertical motions after the initial upset.

Coilovers would still be way superior, but it's now borderline for me on if I can justify the expense.

There was no question before, but now I'm on the fence.

Completely agree. Comfort is now a usable setting, and the others are improved.

That is good to hear... I'm going in for a complete I level update next week. I have a M3 MY16 nov build. Do you feel the power is the same?

Power is the same. The power bump is reserved for those that buy the CP package.

It feels faster though because there is less intervention from the traction control.

Yeah I guess I should of worded it different. I didn't think that the update would give a HP bump, but maybe deliver the power differently to give the car more traction. And not come on so strong at around 3k rpm

DTC Off - No Change, but the rear feels much more planted (New Diff programing?). With the immense changes to the other settings I couldn't feel this.
You used to have euro mdm and this new us mdm is more permissive?! Nice!!

Anyone know if euro mdm is yet more permissive?

After driving it all day today, I would actually say "more advanced" and possibly more permissive now. As I said I was able to loop the car. The only time it came in and took over was when I slammed the throttle down to try doing donuts. So as long as it thinks these are controlled inputs, it appears to let you play. If you do something it considers stupid or panicked it stops it and takes control. I was much more excited about getting some rotation, and no discernible power cut (interference, yes) with everything turned on. As I said, the changes are startling.

At this point if you want more permissive than MDM, you need to turn it all off.

You must have a different version than me, or you must be lifting while at the limit in a bends, because MDM still doesn't give me much side slip.

It allows greater freedom with traction control, but I still can only induce a little bit of side slip.

What are you doing to get it to loop? I just don't see that happening and I have played with mine quite a bit in the last few days.

Dead stop, U-turn, progressive throttle add, comes around. Not lifting, which would do nothing at these speeds.

Sounds like we might be doing things at different speeds. I posted my test methodology as I didn't check all scenarios.

From what I've read the hp bump is aimed to the top end, does anyone have a dyno chart to post?
