That's actually a beautiful automobile in your post, but I have no idea of what your talking about. You do understand that Porsche has the highest profit per vehicle of any of the mainline manufacturers? As a business, they seem to be doing very well without pandering to the budget buyer, and leveraging their sports car brand to sell a fleet of VW SUVs and strange sedans.

But sure, call them up and let them know how stupid they are, and you have the fix, which is to model Maserati.

Your first sentence is just ignorant. If you've driven a mid engine P car like a cayman or boxster you'd realize it's not just about a poor mans 911. The dynamics are sublime

Saying Porsche is insanely profitable sort of proves my point. They have a $49k car they've been making for 2 decades and a factory they've mostly amortized, but they sell it to you for $80k with a hilarious story that you should love 190 ft/lb of torque available at 6000 RPM because it's for purists. I say it's for apologists. Anyone who buys that story is a fool.

This is the only story I want to read about a car I'm buying, and then I want to take that car and add 200 ft/lb of torque with $1,000 ECU flash:

Quote:
The family estate that's as fast as a Ferrari: Audi unveils new five-door which can go at speeds of up to 190mph

Faster than a Porsche 911 and can do 0-60mph in just 3.9seconds
Family estate still has room for five people and luggage space in the boot
Road safety charity says no car should be able to drive so fast

Yup, if I've done one regretful thing today, it's replying to his post. Ah, a new model always bring in new experts here to set us straight.

The thing I did not like about the Cayman/Boxster S motor is the lack of torque below 4k rpm. I may be used to driving turbo cars with the huge torque down low.

Exactly! I own a 911 C4s and the cayman is way more engaging of a car (I also own a S2000). I use to think the boxster was a hair dressers car until I drove one. I can afford a 911 but I think I will be getting a Cayman as it's the better car to drive. I will hold out until the M4 comes out but the colors and the Msrp have me a little down on the car. It's not out of my price range I just think $80k will be more fun in a cayman S or 911S.

I completely agree I absolutely love my 991s but am currently looking at a cayman s maybe I will even wait for the gts. I will miss the 400hp from the 991 but the feel of the cayman is just that good. Plus the fact that the car is 50k cheaper then a 991s. If you option the car lightly they can be a lot cheaper then the ones sitting on dealer lots. Porsche is also discounting them if you know how to bargain at all. I am still 1 in line for the M3 so I will be deciding between the two. It just comes down to if I actually need the rear seats as the cayman is hands down the better car unless you want to drag race. M3 is a fantastic handling car but feels like an SUV after you step out of a cayman or 911. Don't even want to compare the shifter and brakes as they are worlds apart.

Cayman S would be a nice 2nd car.

As I read in German carmag Sportauto, a 991 C2S weighs about 1507kgs...
That's 3322 lbs... about the same as the new M3/4...

Cheers

Don't get me wrong, I wanted a 997S back in 2008(but having 2 kids was one of the reasons I got the E90 M3 6MT), the engine felt more torquey than the M3 V8. The roadholding was better , build quality is Number 1 on this planet, but not more driving fun than the E90 M3. Au contraire.

Sometimes the inital UNDERsteer the 911s are 'famous'(...) for, irritated me a bit (a lot) when testdriving the thing.

And don't tell me how to drive an Elfer
I drove a lot of Elfers(from 1973 models via 89 Carreras, 964 C4, 964RS, 996s etc and they all do that) and it's just not my kind of sportscar, but a new GT3/Turbo S, bring it on. Way out of my financial league. So no normal Elfer for me thank you...

Cheers
Robin

Doesn't have to do with weight though the 911 hides it very well. There is so much bodyroll in the m3 compared to the 911. I have never driven a 997 so I can not comment on that but the 991 is quite a ways off of the m3.

As I read in some reviews the 991 has become more of a bigger/heavier GT vs 'sportscar' and the Cayman is the car to get.

But as already stated somehwere overhere, the Cayman needs more power/torque imho....
And which M3 do you mean, I guess the E9x, because we both haven't yet been able to drive the F80 M3.(?)

Cheers

I agree on the cayman I would love one with the 3.8 swap. This is in comparison to my previous e92 though I don't see the f80/f82 being all that much different in terms of the feel of handling. I am not knocking the car at all it will be a great sports coupe and sedan. I currently am 1 on my dealers wait list as I am excited for this car. I really hope the car proves me wrong. I am still very worried about bmws electronic steering though.

Cayman and Boxster are great cars but having owned one for awhile, I much prefer the M3 (which will shortly become the new M4).

The issues I have are practicality (ie no backseat) and size. I like a vehicle with visual presence, which also increases safety. Living in a world of huge SUV's, I always felt like I was driving a go cart and someone was going to flatten me. Yes, the dynamics were great, but just couldn't get over the size.

Beautiful pics. Shape only a sports car could have, taut and sculpted, classy in grey. Unlike an M3/4 where appendages and stylistic tricks tell the tale.

Love the look of it. I was driving by a blue one the other day, with some gunmetal-colored wheels, it looked so good.

I looked at Porsche Cayman and Boxster and came up to a conclusion that if I want to get a Porsche it has to be the 911!

It competes with the 911 more than the M4

IMHO the Cayman is a gorgeous car, way better looking than the 911. I do wish it had more power, so the GTS sounds interesting, but bumping it by just 15 HP isn't that impressive. I wish they'd just make one with the 3.8L Carrera S engine.

Also, it sounds like the GTS will only come with 20 inch wheels... yuck. I don't get the huge wheels craze, big wheels are harsh and heavy. Ugh.

The cayman S and higher versions are hard to beat. You have to drive one to see how the car reacts. I bought one last year, the car drives on rails.
