The sound clips have been shitty in the past, but on these production cars Im really disappointed. It really sounds ghastly.

I liked it and don't mind it at all. Mix between my 1M and E46 m3.

you all forget this thing has ACtive Sound. while you're in the cabin you can pipe a wide selection of engine notes through the speakers. want porsche, ferrari, lambo? no problem, $1.99 download from itunes.

I don't like it either in that clip.

With the E9x M3 the exhaust note is not superb compared to exhaust mods - but I think most of the sound is coming from that rumbling V8.

I wonder how much the engine note contributes to the sound of the new M3/M4 compared to exhaust.

Now I know why they are piping the engine sound into the cabin through the speakers. Engine is so quiet. Almost sounds like revving a Japanese car.

Reminds me of the sound an E60 M5 made when I first heard it. Sounded like a milk truck. Lol

I still like it though.

Well it doesn't sound as good as S65 but that it is to be expected.

It does sound good enough for me to buy it blindly though...a little exhaust should cure any inkling for a louder/different tone.

I have the N54, and I think the N55 actually sounds better..

Not a popular thought, but I got to say, the sound has promise. I think they're improving it little by little, and this one while sounding like a lawnmower or a bike, I can see where they're going. Hopefully the end result will be good. It will never be a V8 rumble, but if they can manage a sonic engineered sound like a GT3, fine by me...

Ultimate performance is important but for me the sound is a very close second. The sound of an engine can be enjoyed on any road at any speed unlike the performance the car offers. I loved having the windows down on my e90 M3 and hearing the engine reverberating off buildings as I raised the revs- the actual acceleration when you put your foot down is not as exciting if it is not accompanied by a great sound- it's the cars soul.

I will wait until the first time I hit 7600 rpm in this car before I judge it's sound and I hope I'm not disappointed.

I don't have issues with the sound. If you listen to it on decent speakers it actually sounds pretty good, although idle is a bit choppy.

Still don't like the "noise" at all. Sounds like one of those civics with the huge obnoxious mufflers. I've driven and heard the same from the M5's and the sound just kills the show.

They both look great. Will be a hard decision on which one to get next.

Driving to work (in my e46 m3) and listened to the video through the speakers. I really like the F80 sound and gives a deeper sound off than the e46
