My single turbo gt more f80 build

I picked this car up about 18 months ago. It's a 2016 f80 lci 6 speed with about 40,000 miles on it...about 72,000km

Wanted some thing fun after a 15 year break from bmws. I used to have a turbo e36 back in college.

Kept the car stock for the first summer then decided to make it a track oriented build.

Mods include
Bimmerworld mcs 2wnr coilovers w. Gc camber plates and gtmore sway bars
Apex vs5rs wheels in 18×10 and 18x11
Extreme contact force tires 275/35 18 and 315/30/18
Autosolutions ssk
Turner shift bushing
Powerflex dual diff bushing mount
Pfc pads - on stock blue brakes
Spl rear toe arms and fall line rear camber shims
Turner monoball front thrust arm bushings
High flow air filters
Silicon charge pipes
3.5 single mid mated to stock downpipes and mpe muffler
Cobra nogara cf seats on bk mounts and scroth quick fit pro harnesses
Wagner tmic
Turner oil cooler skid plate
Rogue transmounts
F80 paul track tune
Lightweight lip

I blew one of my turbos in September so my season was done for the year and the car was parked.

Some bimmerworld alcon brakes came up for sale locally so I jumped on them

I was always interested in a single turbo build but said I couldn't justify the cost unless I blew my stock ones. A few month later that came true and I ordered the 4n motorsports efr8474 kit with 3.5 inch exhaust and front mount intake.

Pic is from 4ns site, I should have my kit in a month

I was also tired of killing my front tires and wanted to move to a 315 up front. I picked up a pair of front vs5rs wheels 18x11 in 25 offset and test fit them with a pair of old 315s I had. No way they were going to fit even with camber maxed out.

I was determined to get 315s up front so ordered the gtmore kit from bimmerworld which just arrived.

Will add more pics once i unbox everything. Bw 18x11 square wheels, and 2wr mcs coilovers.

While I am waiting for turbo parts to arrive I decided to tackle the crank hub. I had a v2 spline lock sitting on the shelf and most of the tools. Replaced the timing chain, guides tensioners and bolts.

save image from url

I didn't find the crank hub too bad of a job (I say that now and assume it will fire up). There are enough writeups and YouTube videos plus ista to work through it. I wouldn't want to do it over a weekend and have to be driving by Sunday evening but for me it doesn't have to move again until the spring. It's intimidating to start but you just have to bite it off a few steps at a time. Took me about a week working mostly an hour or two a night after the kids went to bed.

My stock crankhub looked fine and the friction disk was in good shape but wanted to be ready for single turbo power.

I wanted to wait for black friday to order the last of my parts. Now waiting on
Dorch lift kit
M5 eu5 injectors
Precision raceworks stage 3 brushless pump
Kies crank gaurd
Kies crank lock
Evolution raceworks j pipe
B58 coil conversion

I had been running vargas cbc which was in good shape but ordered the kies so I can rotate the motor if I need to do any work without pulling off the capture plate.

Last thing is a snow performance stage 2.5 water injection kit with the berger stealth tank. I saw one of the kits on sale with the port injection plate. Strictly interested in cooling so will run just distilled water. Valve train and injectors were pretty grimy when i opened it up so hoping a good steam cleaning will keep it running cool. If the plate turns out to be a pain to service I will put a nozzle in the j pipe.

More to follow.

Great build so far and sorry about the stock turbo. Love the track sleeper look - no crazy aero and all functional.

Thanks. That was the intention. Track focused but can still be driven on the street and be somewhat comfortable.

New springs are 1000 lbs and 900 lbs so will see how that changes!

Awesome. Any plans to build the motor? You’ll easily be at the rod limits with this setup.

Brakes were installed after the car was parked. First test will be in the spring.

My goal is to keep torque in the mid 500's and not push into the 650 range where rods will be an issue. If the motor pops then it will be built but trying to avoid that. My main goal is tracking so I am chasing reliability vs all out power.

Gt More coilovers

In the pics passenger side is installed. May be tough to tell in the pics but the setup really pulls the hub in.

Driver side control arms. Nice to maintain head light leveler

Some other goodies arrived. Dorch lift kit and m5 injectors

Old mcs setup sold and off to a new owner

Bms stealth tank.

Also picked up a snow stage 2.5 kit with a port injection plate. However, have decided to ditch the plate and just do a single nozzle in the j pipe. The plate would be a pain in the backside to service and all I want is to run some water for cooling.

Nice build! Excellent choose with the MCS eye-eye mount remote-reservoir dampers - you’ll love them. Did you get 2W, 3W or 4W? I’ve been using MCS dampers since 2014. I’ve used Moton, JRZ and Ohlins, and the MCS dampers are by far the best performing and have the widest range of adjustment.

You’ll have plenty of headroom then. I’m at 706whp/657wtq on my setup and zero issues (knock on wood, fingers crossed, and all that). Going on over a year now with my setup.

That suspension setup is 🤤

Working on the dorch lift kit. Got the hpfp out tonight. Will move the sensors and pumps over tomorrow and start buttoning everything up for the single turbo to arrive. Mike at 4n says the parts need to be coated and will ship next week!

If you are doing the lift kit you are 90% to doing the crank hub so would be a good time to knock that off...which I did

What rates did you go with? Assuming the GTmore R setup is coilover, not divorced?

Love the BW camber plates with eye-eye front strut mount! Jealous

Worked on installing new plugs, b58 coils and eu5 injectors. I used the b58 coil kit from nexsys. Used eldor coils from ecs. Also installed new ngk 97506 plugs gapped to .020.

The longer boots provided seem to make good contact with the spark plugs. Make a good pop when pulling them off.

I don't have the fuel injector tool so I don't think I seated them all the way. Tool is now ordered and will fully seat them when it shows up mid week. I just used a pry bar to pop them out.

Working on buttoning things up. Got the injectors properly seated. Used an Amazon tool which was a piece of junk. Fell apart in the box. With a bunch of fiddling was able to get it working and torque the injectors to 2 NM.

Got the intake manifold back on, with all the ecu harnesses and fuel rail. B58 coils and harness clips are all in. It's a tight fit and had to drill another hole on the injector and coil harness to give a little more clearance to fit the coil in.

Waiting on some new pulleys and tensioner and will work on getting the belts, fan and rad back in soon.

Have not done much the last few days. Pulled the turbos and installed the bimmerworld aluminum motor mounts.

<a href="https://ibb.co/kJz5m

For anyone on the fence about swapping turbos themselves it's not very tough. Once the downpipes are off I used an Amazon engine support bar and e36 tow hook to support the motor. Two nuts on each motor mount and the engine can be lifted 25mm for extra clearance. Each motor mount has 4 bolts to the block although only reason I also pulled the driver side was for the aluminum insert.

Once the passenger side mount is out its just disconnecting the turbo oil and coolant lines then the 19 or so nuts on the turbo manifold and everything comes out.

Still waiting on my turbo. Mike says everything is ready but borg warner has been delayed and only sent the hot side turbo parts.

Will probably tackle the lp fuel pump and starvation kit next. Have a full tank of gas so might try to siphon it down first. Anyone siphon a f80 before that have any tips?
