Hi! I’ve also experienced the same. I was in for a big shock when it happend. Car was at the dealers when it was stolen. Key was in the car, and they smashed some Windows and doors at the dealership and stole it!
Had the car in for detailing and that part of the dealership was no alarms installed! Had trackingsystem from BMW in the car, and e-mailed all the data to the police. They found it. Dirty as hell. It was an drug addict who stole it. Damaged for up to 70.000 NOK. Car had to sit at the dealers for over Two months. When I got it back and drove it for the frist time, it was Very Odd. Thinking of Thor an drug addict had been driving my M4. I got over it, and so will You. But, it was Very Odd in the beginning when I took my first drive in it.

OP, It is unfortunate you have had to experience individuals taking something, you worked so hard for, as if it was there own. I personally believe you should keep the car, it is a tough and resilient car.
Your description of how you feel mirrors the psychological trauma people suffer from various forms of crimes committed against them physically. If a crime were committed against someone you liked and had invested in would you modify or sell off that individual? I know this is a little apples and oranges, but you have a real nice car, it is unlikely there was any damage done that cannot be remedied. It is unlikely your car asked to be stolen, in reference to the car cheating on you someone made. Help your car out and support it as you would a good friend, the anguish you are feeling will subside and your relationship with the car might get even stronger with all you have been through together. Good luck on making the right decision for you.

I had a similar situation last year (https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1411643) so I know how you feel. They ended up having the car for only a few hours, but upon getting it back it did feel a little different...like it wasn't mine anymore.
On the bright side, after a few weeks, and a few washes everything was back to normal. Now it's just an interesting story I share sometimes.

Hey man, just keep the car, fix the wheel (or get new ones) and practice good security measures such as being more aware of your surroundings. Don't be too worried, as long you and your family are safe--you can always get another car. I leave the faraday bag in the cup holder of the car at all times so that I know when to take it with me (my cellphone is there too so I never forget).
Also, if you are leaving home in another car--take the keys with you since we have heard of thieves being bold enough to break into homes just to get the keys. I am always hyper vigilant where ever I go, whether if I am on foot or in my car. All the oddballs stick out, you just have to keep your eyes peeled. Don't let some shitbags spoil your fun man, you can always get another one, that's what insurance is for. It's coming up on my year since I've bought mine and I still feel the same joy driving it since day 1. Will never let some assholes ruin that. |

Number 2, for sure. Wheels can be replaced. The car will be fine.

Cheers guys, I have done some bits to the car, I bought an enet cable and taught myself how to code so enabled a few options and completed some changes, also managed to get a copy of Ista-D and read all the data and played around with that which had some interest bits in.
I have taken some of the advice, keys are in faraday bags and when I leave in a different car the main set of keys come with me, the other keys are in another faraday bag well hidden in the house. When I get out the car and walk around while out, keys back in the faraday bag. We are also looking to move house and the main (only) thing I am asking for is somewhere I can park the car and not have it on show, I think they found my car by reconning the area and marking my house as a target. I had the car fully checked at BMW and everything was fine minus the damaged wheel, the only thing I have noticed is my car doesn't have profiles. BMW still haven't got back to me with an M2 quote! Hopefully another week, maybe a nice clean and sort the wheels and it will feel more like mine again! |

Option 3. Trade it. Last year, I had the passenger side window of my 16 M2 smashed in and my radar detector, iPod, and work laptop stolen. I didn't care so much about the electronics since they could be replaced. And in theory, the window and other damaged parts could be replaced/repaired so no one could tell the vandalism occurred. But I knew. I felt violated. And every time I drove the car from that point on, I remembered. I eventually ended up trading it in for an 18 M3 this past March and felt relieved to get a fresh start. Couldn't be happier now.

Different strokes for different people. I bet some will really divorce their wives if they are raped - probably means they don't love their wives in their hearts.

I would go for Option 1. They were probably just busy trying to run away - technically not much difference than what you would do when you are running late for a date
But honestly speaking OP you probably have an answer in your mind and are looking for a confirmation from others. Just stick to what you think is right for you |

So the car felt Very Odd because a drug dealer drove it? How exactly did it feel Very Odd? A lot of different people have driven my car and it didn't feel Very Odd to me after they drove it, but none of them were drug dealers, at least AFAIK. Just wondering...

On a serious note, the mind does do weird things when subjected to trauma, and it can't be helped. If time's gone by and you still experience the same distress, it might be time to give yourself a break and sell. The whole business about wives and loved ones is a red herring - this is a car |
