I avoid running water on an engine, just not something I'm comfortable with.
I use 2 spray bottles, one for water, one for a 50/50 mix of water and all purpose cleaner. So spray the APC and agitate with a small brush and rinse with the water until clean. For dressing adam's in and out is great since its aerosol based and not oily at all so it won't collect crap. |

Someone that owned an m3 posted a video on youtube. I'm sure a quick search would show it.
I do it the same way he does it in the video. Quickly spray a pressure washer over it. Get some APC cleaner and agitate it. Then spray clean. Wipe dry. Dress he engine bay. Everything is pretty water tight. As long as the engine isn't hot, you shouldn't have any problems. Just don't soak it. Even the alternator can take some water.
